Jeanne Cooper (Y&R)

Prayers go out to Jeanne Cooper, who has played Katherine Chancellor on Y&R for decades. She is in the hospital and according to her son, actor Corbin Bernsen, she is in her final stages.

I read about this recently. How sad.

She's gravely ill. My heart is sad. I have been watching The Young and the Restless since the early 80's. She had been battling an infection. She was released from the hospital last weekend, but ended up back in the hospital in critical condition.

I actually could already tell something was wrong a few months back. She was even speaking differently.

That's sad

Jeanne Cooper has passed away. Jeanne died earlier today. My heart is filled with sadness for her children, grandchildren and Y&R co-stars.

I just heard the news. It's so sad. She was an amazing actress! My prayers are with her family, friends, and Y&R co-stars.

UPDATED: The actress, best known as Katherine Chancellor, won a Daytime Emmy in 2008 following a Lifetime Achievement Award honor in 2004.
The Young and the Restless star Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor on the daytime soap for four decades, died in her sleep Wednesday morning at 84.
"Mom passed this morning. She was in peace and without fear. U all have been incredible in your love. In her name share it 2 day with others," Cooper's son, actor Corbin Bernsen, wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
Bernsen shared in a lengthier message posted on his Facebook that he "was going to visit this afternoon, thought I had time. Reminder to self -- time is a precious thing. I too am at peace however. I said my goodbyes several times over during the last few weeks." He shared that his sister was by his mother's side when she died.
In an earlier update, Bernsen called his mother "a beacon whose bright light will not easily fade away" and "a boxer who will not easily give up."
“Jeanne Cooper was a legend in daytime and a beloved member of our Y&R family,” said Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures TV, which produces Young and the Restless. “She touched the lives of millions, who watched her every day over the past 40 years. We send our sincerest condolences to her family as we also celebrate her wonderful life.”
Cooper received 10 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, winning a Daytime Emmy in 2008 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame in 1993 and was nominated for two Primetime Emmys, including one for playing Bernsen's mother in L.A. Law.
Prior to Young and the Restless, Cooper's career began in the 1950s with the film The Redhead From Wyoming, before appearing later in TV series like Ironside and Perry Mason.

I heard about this yesterday. Very sad.

May 28 (this coming Tuesday) Y&R will be airing a special tribute to Jeanne. Her children and co-stars will be sitting in the Chancellor living room sharing their memories of Jeanne. YR will not be the same without her.

I just watched the tribute. I always DVR the show, but I'm really happy I got to stay home today for this one. It was a great show and it was very moving. She was a very special lady and very much loved. I agree, Y&R won't be the same without her.

Back in the day I watched Y&R faithfully. I am surprised that Jeanne didn't win an emmy until 2008! That's a long time!

Julie, how did they do the tribute on the show? Can you kind of describe how they incorporated the tribute into the storyline? Just curious.
