Where did you first see him? I first discovered him on LH, then I started looking for his other work, LOL.

My parents used to watch the show when I was little, I've loved it ever since. As I got older (and developed a crush on Matt Laborteaux, LOL), I began taping the episodes and watching more and more.

They have Little House books for younger readers now. There are quite a few titles in the series. You're definitely not too old to start reading the Little House books! They're the kind of book that could be enjoyed by anyone, of any age.

My Mom used to watch Little House when I was very young, so when it started up in re-runs when I got a little older, we watched it a lot. I was immediately hooked.

I think the books that I'm thinking of are called "My First Little House" books.

Then there are others that are "The Laura Years", "The Rose Years", "The Charlotte Years"...... I've never read those, so I can't vouch for them. But the original Little House books are wonderful!

It was on at my house growing up and I fell in love with it. I taped the reruns on TBS when I was as single mom, never knowing how popular DVDs would be one day. Now that my DVD collection is complete I can watch LHOP and Dean whenever I want.

BTW, you are never too old to read the books. I've read them several times as an adult. It's been a while, but I still love how they were written.

My Mum watched it a lot when I was younger and now I remember some of the episodes we watched back then. But I got really into it when I was about nine and it started right from the beginning once again on TV. My mum had the idea of watching it and me and my sister told her that we weren't interested! She pretty much had to force us to watch the pilote movie, but after we'd done we were hooked. For about a year we gathered every afternoon in front of the TV :-)

I was in high school when Little House first came on in 1974. I watched the whole thing thru first hand and then rediscovered it in 1995 when I was diagnosed with cancer and was having chemo treatments. I would go to the cancer clinic, get comfortable in the recliner and tune in to TBS. It was wonderful to get lost on the prairie for at least 2 hours while waiting for the meds to drip in....................The second time thru my illness, I taped it and would watch it in the evenings with my husband or boys, whoever sat next to me when I had it on.............

I had to watch a new tv show for school and write a report about it. My parents were strict as to what I watched. I found LHOP in it's 4th season and have watched ever since.

I was in kindergarten when I was given a reading book by my teacher (she thought I was advanced in reading or something). It had a Laura Ingalls Wilder story in it. I can't remember which one since that was 30 years ago. Anyways, I got the Little House book collection when I was 8 or so. I think I've read them all. It's been a long time, but I do tend to read or glance through favorite books.

I've always been a sucker for shows about families, maybe because I didn't come from a happy one myself. I remember watching Little House for the first time in 1975 and from that first episode I was hooked. I loved the story lines and the fact that Laura and Mary had a hunk for a pa helped too! Laughing

I started watching it as a child, when it originally aired. Ever since, I've been catching it on reruns.

This past Christmas I got the first 2 seasons on DVD, as well as the 9 book, Little House set. The books were fantastic. I read them all in 2 weeks.

I've been trawling through some of the past posts on this forum, and started to wonder about the people behind the avatars. I've been wondering what it was that originally drew people into the world of LH. Was it the NBC show, the books, or some other way? And what is it that keeps people interested? Is it the history, the pop culture, or something else?

For me, I became acquainted with the NBC show as a child, which was followed by the discovery (thanks to my Mother) that Laura Ingalls was indeed a real person. This lead me to the books and then a desire to know everything / anything about the woman who wrote them. Sadly, the books were not prescribed reading in Australian schools (understandable since we have our own pioneers, land rush, gold rush, which form part of mandated curriculum) - but nevertheless...it would have been wonderful to know these books from third grade.

Anybody willing to share their story?

Your question is a good one. For me, it was the NBC show. In the early seventies, I had just gotten married after serving in the military in the 1960's which was full of discord and lots of tragedy. Robert Kennedy, John Kennedy and Martin Luther King had been killed and riots and demonstrations over the Viet Nam War had torn the country apart.

I was starting a new family and had been raised in a loving family with parents that had values. I was hooked when I watched the first episode. The reason was the love that Michael Landon injected into almost all of the episodes. I believe, and it is only my opinion, that after the decade of the sixties, people were hungry for a show like that. The funny thing about it is that no one admitted that they watched Little House. It wasn't the "shiek" thing to do! But somebody watched it, because it lasted for eight plus years.

Michael Landon once said that if you can make them cry and laugh, you've got them. That's what he did and I was hooked. I think on this forum that you will find a mixture of people that love the books and some that never read the books but love the television show. But they all have one thing in common. They love what Little House stood for, family values and lots of love through adversity as well as good times. Who in the world wouldn't want to have a father like Charles or a mother like Caroline. Or sisters like Laura, Mary and Carrie.

I have all the DVD's and have seen every episode numerous times. My wife and I still watch it on TV. It never grows old. I can't say that for another show I've ever seen on television. The values that Michael wrote about are timeless. That's what did it for me...........

There's one more reason for being on this forum, that you will find on no other web site. THE FIFEINATOR! If you need work on your spelling, the wise one from the frozen north will make you a literary giant. He's lurking everywhere!

Plus - I like to SMILE!

"Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?"
"I must be Pa. I love you, I have for a long time."
