Yes, it was really pronounced AlmAnzo. Not sure why it was different on the show. I do wish we could ask the McCrays about that one. To me it would have made more sense to say AlmAnzo because of Laura calling him Manly. Although, I am glad they didn't have him call Laura, Bess as he really did in real life. Beth, just sounds better.

I have to admit I have NEVER heard anyone named Almanzo at all except Almanzo Wilder. Maybe someday I'll have a horse and name him that. Nah...probably not.

I cringe every time I hear AlMONzo on the show. I have no idea why Michael changed the pronunciation of the name. I think AlMANzo sounds so much better.

My guess would be that they probably never heard it pronounced. They probably didn't do much research about the real LIW. Once they had the rights to do the show, the writers could most likely write what they wanted.
