Hello,
new here, but I've been watching Little House on the Prairie since the show originally aired. It's just the best show. I can THINK of scenes and tear up!

Some observations about the show:

Why did Ma sell eggs to Oleson's Mercantile? That was a farm community, everybody had chickens, the Mercantile should have been busting with eggs!

Does anyone else think Michael Landon had a tardiness problem? He's always talking about being late for work, or the girls are late for school. It's the 1800s, people got up with the sun, and had a more laid back view of life. I don't think Mr Hanson would have writted Charles up if he came to work at 8:30 vs 8:00. School I can see being on time for, but the girls should have been up for hours before school started.

The little house.
People on other boards say the Ingalls' house looked like a shack while other people's houses were much nicer.  I think the house had a great layout, with the fireplace seperating the main room and the bedroom. The kitchen addition made it even better. It just looked unfinished, the walls had a 1800s type of what, spackle, but there were places where it was missing. Also the area by the kitched looked like the boards on the exterior and the interior had some wood that looked like framing. Unfinished. They should of just had knotty boards on the entire interior. Would have given it a more warm look.

From the book. I'm glad the shocking propolsal from the Boasts never made it to the tv show. Never expected that the Boasts would turn out to be freaks!

Those are things I can think of. I hope the episode threads are still browsed, I can think of a lot to say over there.

Did Doc Baker have chickens? Did Lars have chickens? Did Miss Beadle have Chickens? How about Miss Whipple? And one thing for sure, the Olsens didn't have chickens. Besides, if Caroline didn't sell eggs to the Olsens, we wouldn't have had the great story below!

And don't forget, Caroline wasn't the only the only one that sold them eggs. Margaret Mumford sold Harriet eggs in "The Big Inning".
The egg thing was just a great way to set up some conversations....

Welcome to the board! I hope you find yourself very much at home here. You may want to introduce yourself to everyone over in the "Introductions, Departures, and Returns" thread so everyone can meet you. Smile

And I agree, I think the Ingalls' home layout was wonderful!  Sure can see the knotty pine you speak of though.  Very warm.Love

One other thing I notice. In school, I've never heard them talk about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. That was a huge event, opening up the country to the west coast. They talked about England and kings and queens, but a momumental event like Lewis and Clark, never.
