As some of you might remember, I ordered several books from an LIW historic site online about a month ago. Well, I received the package about a week after ordering and was more than thrilled. With being so busy I haven't had much of a chance to read (I wish I could bring these books to work! There's always at least an hour there where I have to pretend to be busy! LOL), but I did get through "Old Town in the Green Groves". Has anyone else read this and like to discuss it with me? Think Wave

I am planning to read it in the very near future, probably within the next 2 weeks. I'll get back to you, ok

I read the book with a freind. She grew up in MO and had never read the LH books. So she went on ebay and bought them all, including Green Groves, and we spent a month or so reading them.
I enjoyed the book. It was written in LIW style. It was nice to read about the short life of Charles Jr. The book says that he was buried on Uncle Peter's property but as far as I know, no one knows where that grave is. I found a website for a cemetary that lists him as being buried in it but the location is not given. So maybe he isn't there. I, along with my Ingalls buddy, would love to know where he really lies.
I find it kinda irronic that someone wanted to adopt Laura during these Iowa years. Many years later, Mrs Boast wanted to adopt Rose. I am sure that Laura remember how horrified she felt as a child when someone wanted to adopt her child.
Green Groves was a great book. At last we have an idea of what happened during those silent years.

I enjoyed it too - I like how they wrote it in the same style LIW used, and it is nice to have the blanks filled in from those years she herself didn't write about.

I didn't read it. I just can't afford it now, for we had had a serious devaluation. But I'd read somewhere in the net that the book has a lot of mistakes, and that it even lacks some interesting things that Laura herself told us in an account she made about her life in Burr Oak. She remembered it as a "Lovely Place".

Vanesa.
