I love plants..........Herbs, flowers, vegetable plants.........So....I was at a greenhouse Saturday, and was looking for a few plants for the garden for this year. Most things I start from seed, but there are a few seeds that don't like me, so I let someone else start them. Anyway.........I noticed an unusual looking flower off to the side, and went over to see what it was. I'd never seen one like it before. When I looked at the tag, I saw that it was Edelweiss! And, being a huge Sound of Music fan, I was thrilled! So, this morning, after doing more brush-clearing, etc...............I planted some Edelweiss out front! I can't wait to see it bloom! And now, I can't get the song Edelweiss out of my head! But it's okay - I like that song! _________________ Pray hardest when it's hardest to pray.

my father grew up in a Presbyterian church. A few years ago we went to the anniversary service and they sang these words to the tune of Edelweiss. It is a blessing.
May the Lord, mighty God Bless and keep you forever. Grant you peace, perfect peace Courage in ev’ry endeavour. Lift up your eyes and see His face And His grace and favour. May the Lord, mighty God Bless and keep you forever. _________________

Well Marilyn, you went and did it. You made me cry!! I read those words and just couldn't help but think of my son who will be graduating next month. Those words are simply beautiful and I'm so glad you shared them! (even though my mascara is running! )
Rhonda, that video was just gorgeous..."achingly beautiful" as Savannah said. THANK YOU for posting it! I hadn't seen a great many of those pictures before. Julie has always been so lovely---my dad has always had a little 'thing' for her. And I just adore Christopher Plummer....he has quite the personality---a real charmer and a genuine guy. Man, these two sure have chemistry, don't they?
Rob, that was the cutest post ever!
And Savannah, good luck growing your Edelweiss! I'm sure it will be pretty, and how could you ever look at it without smiling? _________________

When my family got our first VCR back in 1984, the first thing I taped was The Sound of Music. It's one of my Mom's favorite movies, and I thought it would be nice if she had her own copy. I found that tape a couple years ago, and thought it would be interesting to watch. Not so much for the movie (which I've seen about a dozen times), but to see all the commericals and newsbreaks. I figured it would be a real blast from the past to see what was going on in 1984.
So I started watching it, and when the first commercial break came... there was no commercial. The movie started right back up again. That's when I remembered that, when I taped it, I'd sat there with my finger on the pause button and carefully edited out ALL the commercials. A chunk of TV history lost forever.

LOL! Rob! I'll do that with old shows I taped. It's like a blast from the past to relive the old commercials that used to be one. Some of them were great and you wished they will still on! _________________ I would fight for you...I'd lie for you...walk the wire for you... ya I'd die for you...you know its true...everything I do...I do it for you.

Aw, Rob...what a sweet son! You wanted her to have a commercial free copy! I do believe 1983 or 84 was when we got our first VCR too! Gosh, that sure was a BIG deal, wasn't it?!?! I remember Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz were the two 'annual' movies you could always look forward to.
As a die-hard Sound of Music fan, I felt the need to buy the dvd awhile back (actually the hubby got it for me for a bday or Christmas---I think it's an anniversary edition), anywho....I wanted all those special features and boy am I glad I have it! It is packed and well worth the money to get all these 'behind the scenes' documentaries and reunions and such.

LOL Misti...how about soap operas??? Have you ever taped those and then rediscovered them a million years later? I came across one last year from Guiding Light that had Harley & Alan Michael on it, with Beth and...was it "Lucas?"(Vincent Irizary is the actor's name, I know that). Anyway, that was when I was in high school---maybe 1986?! _________________

Yes, Amy, in fact that has happened. It's like a hidden nugget of gold, isn't it? Beth was with Lujack back then, I believe. I was watching back when I was about 15 (1982) and that was when Beth & Mindy were in the hospital & Philip & Rick went and visited Mindy & met Beth. So with Beth & Lujack, it probably was '86. Man, has that much time passed??? _________________ I would fight for you...I'd lie for you...walk the wire for you... ya I'd die for you...you know its true...everything I do...I do it for you.

Talk about a blast from the past! I used to tape Guiding Light for my Mom in the mid-'80s, and I started watching it at night, too. Beth, Lujack, Mindy, Henry and Vanessa Chamberlain, Alan and Hope Spaulding, Philip, Kelly and Morgan, Nola Reardon...

Remember how expensive they were?? I think ours was in the $300-400 range. And a single blank tape cost about $10.

The title of this thread scared me.
I thought I had to arm myself.
The first hill that comes after me is gonna get a load of buckshot.
I'm not kidding either.
And you don't wanna KNOW what I'll do if a mountain comes after me. I'm an ex combat engineer. I'll blow the Rockies all over the US and we'll have to drink foreign beer.
Bring it.
