It amazes me how many times people use their kids as an excuse to miss work. I have heard all kinds of excuses from the kids being sick from the flu, to fever, to having their mentrual cycle... blah blah blah.... why do people lie so much that way?

I used to tell my friend it wasn't so good for her to say her kids had so many illnesses so that she could miss work.... when the kids really were sick it was hard to believe them.

Man, just get the guts to be honest about what's going on in your life or say something else but the poor kids will probably become real sick someday and then they will realize that it was not nice to pretend they had all kinds of infirmities... and I hate it when I have to pass on the message to my bosses knowing that what I'm telling them is a bunch of crap. banghead

There is one guy in particular that I work with that comes to mind - he uses his kid's "sickness" for an excuse to leave work early and then take off the next day b/c "he was at the doctor's late" and such.

I feel the same way - it's terrible to use excuses like that b/c someday, if their kids are sick, they're going to feel terrible that they used it as a phony excuse beforehand and it actually happened!

Well, if I can't make work, I simply say, I can't make it today. I have things to take care of. I don't say I am sick, nor would I lie and say that a child was sick.

I also hate it when people use a funeral for an excuse, when you know they are lying.

It seems childish to lie and make up excuses.

It's annoying when people constantly use fake excuses, especially if you're the one always showing up to work. At my old job, I only took off if I really needed to, but with just a little head cold or something I would go in anyway, even though I didn't feel good. And all these other people would take off for the worst reasons - "She has a headache", "He hurt his finger", "her 19-year-old son has a sore throat and she has to stay home to make him soup" (that was my favorite excuse I ever heard there, LOL). At my current job, the other guy constantly takes off Saturdays b/c of weddings. How many people could you possibly know that they're getting married every other week?! LOL.

I am sorry, and no disrespect, but I think if one is sick, they should stay home. That's the way germs get spread. I work in retail, and I have caught colds and the 24 hour bug from customers. I just feel if someone is sick, their place is at home, cause if they had stayed home, I would have been fine, and not given it to my family.

And I suffer from bad headaches, and sometimes you do need to stay home. If you have never had a migrane headache, than you don't know how severe they are.

Thanks, because though a headache seems silly as an excuse, it's not silly at all.

I have to sleep off a migrane. You can't work.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding; I don't think I was clear enough with my last post. I was only trying to say that sometimes people make up excuses to not go into work. I myself have had migraine headaches as well, and fully agree that you need to rest and can't function when you're suffering from one. But when you're making it up just as an excuse to not go in, well, then, that's not fair to the people who do go to work everyday when they're feeling fine, or if they're a little under the weather. When I am really sick, I don't go into work and I agree that other people shouldn't either, b/c they are only spreading germs around to other people. But again, all I was trying to say is that sometimes people use something small or nonexistent (as I said, fake excuses), just to not go into work.
