“LITTLE WOMEN”


The school children are allowed to put on plays in groups. Laura and Mary work with Ginny Clark, a student who has no father. Ginny wants her mother to date, but her mother, Della, doesn't believe she looks good enough. Ginny sells her long beautiful hair so she can buy her mother a new dress. Della at first accuses Ginny of stealing money until she sees that her daughter has cut her hair.
















A great classic little house episode. There was laughter, drama and love. Willie was too funny and not to mention Nellie with her wig! One of my favorite scenes is when Mr. Edwards is telling that man how he should handle women.. he said.. "I told Grace WHAT was gonna happen, I told her WHAT was gonna be!" (see pic above ) and Charles goes... "Mornin' Grace!" tricking into thinking she's behind him and Mr. Edwards just about faints! LOL!!

I'm reading Little Women right now, and I haven't seen this episode in awhile, so I may just have to get Season 3 from the library so I can watch it again!

awesome esp! You kind of felt bad for the girl. The mother was not too my liking loved the ending tho.

One of my favorites. I recognizes the girl who played Ginny Clark. Was also on The Waltons as Aimee Godsey.

I thought Nellies wig was hysterical, but it was so obvious to me that Ginny was wearing a wig the whole show...really noticeable, I can't imagine that the prop people couldn't have done better than that.

It was also noticeable to me when I watched this episode today, as I've been watching The Waltons, and Rachel Longaker, who played Ginny in this episode, has a recurring role in The Waltons as Aimee Godsey, the adopted daughter of Ike and Corabeth Godsey, the owners of the general store.

I remember Rachel from The Waltons, and did a web search for her. She's now a workshop coordinator for a company called Digital Art History.

Rachel Longaker is also a research assistant for the Digital Mellini project at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, California. She also works for the Getty’s Scholars’ Program, assisting visiting scholars with the Research Institute’s on site and on line resources. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature (French and English) from Brown University and recently earned a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research interests are in digital art history and collection information management for museums.

Besides the bad wig they gave Ginny to wear and Nellie (that was funny though) I was thinking Ginny's mom was only the second widow with children I remember. (Mrs.Sanderson the other) Her children were old enough to help, but how did someone like Ginny's mom get hard chores done like plowing or chopping wood, hunting? Did they rely on others, get small jobs like in the post office?
It was a hard life alone and I imagine some remarried for less than loving reasons at times. The widow Sanderson had 2 sons that were of age to help her a lot, but I pity the woman who lost her husband with young children.

The answer is simple.......You either got another husband or did it yourself........that's why the life span was shorter than today. It killed a lot of people........

Yes and without laws about pay and treatment, it was hard. I know, as like today, if you had money, it was easier.
In that way, I'm glad LHOP leaves out the harsh realities, we have enough daily to suffice.

I watched the episode this morning. Ginny did have a bad wig. Willie made a dog mad, then went running to Miss Beadle for help when the dog chased him. I didn't like Nellie's wig.

I really like this one.....very touching and heartwarming but no huge major catastrophe of the week (like a plague or a fire). That little Ginny is so cute. (One negative ... as is often the case, we don't ever see her, her mom, or Mr. Mayfield ever again to my recollection. It would have been so fun to get to see yet another wedding (between Ginny's mom and Mr. Mayfield) and to have them on as recurring characters. I do think Ginny's mom needed to step up and be more supportive of Ginny - and it was pretty horrible for her to say that she wished she had died when her husband did, since that would have left Ginny all alone. I guess she was just still dealing with her grief and bitterness.

Willie is hilarious in this one. I actually do feel sorry for him, though, as he has no real friends. That may be partially his fault, but I'm so glad that his life took a turn for the better later on in the series.

And of course Mrs. Oleson and Nellie are, as usual, so much fun. If it had not been for them needing the hair-selling scene for the episode plot, I could have seen Mrs. Oleson writing a scene where Beth (Laura in the play) just gets to lay there dead.

I caught part of this episode last night after not having seen it for quite a while... I didn't remember the scene where the dog chases Willie, but it was funny it served him right!
