A very special anniversary

Many of you here had a very special part in this anniversary, too. One year ago today, Michael had the major seizure that nearly took his life. The doctors had told us not to get our hopes up, because three hours had passed, and they still couldn't get Michael to come out of the seizure. They also told us that if he did survive, that we should expect brain damage. One year later.......my precious Michael is healthy and strong, with no brain damage and has even been weaned off one of his anti-seizure meds. What a joy that he's still with us - and that God still answers prayers. And what a joy to have friends like all of you who joined my family and RL friends in prayer for Michael. I haven't met any of you face to face yet, but some of you have become so dear to me that I couldn't love you friends any more if I had!

HOW WONDERFUL SAVANNAH!!!! I know exactly how meaningful those "anniversaries" are, trust me, I know....CONGRATS TO MICHAEL!!!

I am so happy that Michael is doing so well!! Your love and support got him through such a difficult and scary time in his life. I will continue to pray for him.

Thank you, everyone! It was mid-day when I realized what day it was, and it almost made me cry to think of how close we came to losing him. He's one of the feistiest, funniest little boys you could ever meet. (I couldn't be biased, could I? batEyes

I remember this so vividly. You would think it was happen to one of our kids. How wonderful that Michael is doing so well. Did you ever get a chance to check out the link for those seizure dogs? I pray that Michael continues along this path and that his seizures remain under control.

Cheryl, I did check out the link on the seizure dogs! It's really amazing!

We talked to the children on Monday, and then talked to April for a little while, and found out that Mikey has started his petit mal seizures again, now that they took him completely off his Keppra. SO.........they're putting him back on Keppra. I'm VERY thankful for Michael's teacher. SHE'S the one who noticed them - and petit mal seizures aren't easy to spot. If you aren't aware of the symptoms, it can look for all the world like the child is just ignoring you, or not paying attention. Thank the Lord, she noticed that something was wrong. If she hadn't caught it early, it could easily have progressed back into the grand mal seizures. So, he isn't ready to be completely off the Keppra yet. But the doctors had told us that stress can worsen a person's seizures, or trigger a return, and Michael has been under a lot of stress the last few months.
