I don't know what's wrong with the people in charge, but ever since this snowstorm hit, the conditions in my town and surrounding areas have been atrocious. On Wednesday, we were declared a "state of emergency" and the highways were shut down. Parts of the highway were shut down again Thursday and even Friday - I took the backroads to get my interview. The problem with this is that they make an announcement that they're shutting the highways, then they do. They don't make a cut off where new cars would be getting on, and they don't let the people who are on get off. Pregnant women, children, entire families, have sat on the highway in the frigid cold for as long as 17 hours. The temperatures were too cold for them to leave their cars and attempt to walk anywhere. I think this is absolute insanity. If it was up to me, they would block off the highway traffic and not let anymore cars on, and any of the ones that were already on would be routed onto the nearest exit so they can at least get into town and try to find a place to stay. Or, have rescue vehicles come in and take the people to a shelter of some sort where they could at least have warmth and food. One man who was stuck for 17 hours reported that the people in his car ran out of liquid to drink, so they reached out and grabbed snow to eat!

Aside from that, a large portion of the streets have not been plowed, some that have have iced over, and we're supposed to get another snow showere tonight. Only an inch or less from what I've heard, but with the conditions already the way they are, I'm afraid it will make the streets ice up again and make the conditions even worse. Sorry for venting, it's just so frustrating to know that this is how people are being treated - in dangerous situations, left stranded.

I am soooo dissapointed in Penndot... banghead

I had to miss 2 days of work this week because the roads were so horrible.. I saw the news reports that parts of a couple of major highways were shut down, and those poor people were trapped there for hours... I think they did eventually send the National Guard out to help the stranded motorists with gas,food and water.. The local news stations interviewed some truck drivers that have to travel through PA and they all said that we have the worst roads in the country.. mad

I missed 2 days, too. It's really disappointing. It's a disaster that didn't need to happen at all. Even now the streets are a mess.

I am totally sick of this weather too. I go to clean off my new car form the snow and the next thing you know it's covered right back up again. Blue

Also Pittsburgh is terrible at cleaning up the roads around here. Huh?

We had one snow storm last Wednesday so far and with my luck, while scraping the snow off my windshield after work last Wednesday, I cracked my windshield. bawling

I didn't think I scrapped it that hard, I didn't even noticed until Saturday. affraid

Luckily I have full glass coverage. I had it replaced this morning. Cheer

Oh my goodness! I'm glad you were able to get it replaced. Things around here have gotten a little better; dump trucks actually moved tons of snow out of the downtown area - I'm not sure where they put it, LOL. :scratch: Tonight, we got some more snow. Not enough to really accumulate, but enough to make everything a sheet of ice all over again. Come, spring!

They are calling for some more snow and ice here on Sunday. I hope they can do a better job cleaning it up this time than last time.. banghead
