UPS Virus

I got this from a friend this morning:

I had heard of this Virus disguised as an email from UPS and I was sent one today. I did not fall for it and thought I'd pass along again.

It was an email purporting to be from United Parcel Service, telling me they couldn't deliver a package for me and that I'd need to pick it up at their office, or I'd be charged a daily fee. It instructed me to click on an attachment, which it claimed was an invoice I'd need to present to pick up the package. I'm sure many may fall for this, as most of us have, indeed, sent packages via UPS recently. Had I clicked on the attachment, I would definitely have opened a virus. I googled "UPS Virus" and got the following info:

"We have become aware of a fraudulent e-mail being sent that says it is coming from UPS and leads the reader to believe that a UPS shipment could not be delivered. The reader is advised to open an attachment reportedly containing a waybill for the shipment to be picked up.

This email attachment contains a virus. We recommend that you do not open the attachment, but delete the email immediately. UPS may send official notification messages on occasion, but they rarely include attachments. "

Thanks for the warning, Rob. I always look things like this up on snopes.com to make sure that it's "real" and not a hoax. This is in fact "real." I get e-mails from friends and family members from time to time, warning me about certain things, so I've always found it helpful to look things like this up. Many times they ARE a hoax.
