Let's discuss some of your favorite books as a child.

I remember I looooved reading. I would refer to the library as my 'home away from home' lol. In the 80s, my cousin belonged to the Disney book club and I just loved looking at the beautiful illustrations, every night I used to read them a story. We also had cassettes, those that played a chime sound and you knew it was time to turn the page lol.

One of my favorite events of the school year was when the Scholastic Book Fair came to school. The auditorium would be filled with books and other goodies! I felt like I was on cloud 9 as I would looks at all the books, I wished I could buy them all! lol


My favorite illustrations came from books like Berenstain Bears, Pippi Longstocking, Disney books, Peter Rabbit, Sesame Street, and the list goes on and on.

One book I would recommend is Heidi. I found the entire series on DVD (spanish) and am enjoying watching all these episodes! Sure brings back some childhood memories. Anyways, a great book!



Okay gang, let's talk about our favorite childrens books!

I just spent about $65 at the latest Scholastic book fair. It makes no sense, since I get so many books for free, but I can't say no to books.

I honestly don't remember many books from my childhood except my Nancy Drew mysteries and a Golden Book Treasury. I think I've blocked it all out like the rest of my childhood.

Those book fairs have ALWAYS been a weakness for me. I miss them now that my boys are older. I drug Madison in one about a month ago and he looked like I made him eat dirt. He reads still, but he hates being MADE to. He had so much trouble in the begining, that he hates being told to pick out a book. grrrr.
My favorites growing up were, Helen Keller, LIW books, and one called Pippy Longstockings. I also loved books that came along with records that told the story.
Kids cannot have enough books!!

Katherine is the same way. She gives me such a hard time with her required 15 minutes of reading each night, even when it’s books she enjoys.

I remember Pippy! I think I still have a few of those books with records kicking around the basement somewhere. Does that make me as old as dirt?

Well, if you saw our house, you might rethink that statement. There are books in almost every room of our house. The girls have them piled up on the floor they have so many.

When my sister and I were little, our parents would read to us every night. I can't think of a better gift that parents can give. Except for maybe giant bags of money.

Nan and I both loved the Little Golden Books. I was a big Dr. Seuss fan. And then Winnie the Pooh.

ROB! Winnie the Pooh is my favorite friend. I got lost in Sears one time because I wanted to go see the GIANT stuffed Winnie the Pooh in the kids department. (I was 5.) I ended up upstairs in the offices asking an employee to get it down for me. My poor mother was beside herself with worry!!
There is just something safe and calm about Pooh. ahhhhh, good memories.

Cheryl, you have Pippy books? COOL. I need to find some. Book are all over our house too. I have about 300 in my own personal collection and the boys have tons too. I have bookshelves and a chest full. I can't even get rid of the boys childrens books....I just keep thinking the grandkids will need them. ----someday.

Last week I found one of the books that I got when I was 10 years old.


Do you ever see a family in an outing and one of the kids has their nose stuck in a book? That used to be me. lol I would carry a book with me everywhere. I also have to say that Reading Rainbow also got me reading more, I'd try not to miss a show

I think Pippy was the one that made me want a monkey. My parents just could not figure out why I would want a monkey instead of a dog, cat, fish, turtle...anything normal.
I had this picture in my head that I could take a bubble bath with my monkey...oh and his name was.....Bobby. Now my mother n' laws name is Bobbie.....he he!!

One of my favorite books later in Elementary school was The Ghost of Windy Hill.
I liked mystery and suspense. I had a babysitter that read me this book in one night. I made her skip over the word "Ghost" ...it spooked me too much. I found a copy of this book at an antique store about a year ago.

Love it....I remember Nathan watching a video of Cowboy Pooh. Madison was more of a Little Bear fan. Bears are just fun friends I guess.
