I've just finished reading a book, 'Winger' by Andrew Smith, and in it my favorite character died unexpectedly at the end of the book. He was the character who you couldn't not like, because of the way he acted and treated others. When he was killed, it left me feeling rather heartbroken because he was my favorite character in the story and he died in a terrible way, and I also felt rather betrayed by the author because it happened so close to the end of the book that it didn't give nearly enough time to explain how this character's best friend handled the event.
I'm sure this post has made me sound a bit crazy, and I should probably try to stop becoming so attatched to the characters in the books I read, but I am wondering if anyone else has ever been saddened by the loss of a fictional character in a book they were reading? (I won't even begin to talk about how reading the Harry Potter series made me feel!)
