My First Lucid Dream

I didn't think that when I went to bed last night I would experience a lucid dream!

Fascinating, Carol! Is there a way to try to nudge yourself into a lucid dream, or do they just happen spontaneously?

For those that don't know, a lucid dream is a dream in which you know you are dreaming. Typically this happens when the dreamer experiences something strange, and when they stop to question their reality, they realize they are in a dream. Lucid dreams happen naturally on occasion, but others do certain things that will help them have lucid dreams. And when you are aware that you are dreaming you get excited because you have control of your dream world. You can be and do anything you like :)

Some things that will help you is keeping a dream journal. When you have vivid dreams, start writing them down, even if it just a few sentences but this way your brain starts to remember dreams more. Also before going to sleep, you can say to yourself you will have a lucid dream. You can perform reality checks.

For example, a default reality check is pushing two fingers from your right hand into the palm of your left hand and willing them to pass straight through. In waking life, this is not possible. In a dream, the fingers pass through. And then you know... You're dreaming! At this realization your conscious brain will ignite in the dream, your environment will surge into focus and you will have a real sense of who you are, where you are, and what you want to do next.

Top 10 Reality Checks for Lucid Dreams
Use the finger check if you like, or try out these other effective tests:

Breathe - Can you hold your nose and mouth shut and breathe?
Jump - When you jump, do you float back down?
Read - Can you read a sentence twice without it changing?
Look - Is your vision clearer or blurrier than normal?
Hand - Can you push hand through a solid surface?
Time - Can you read a clock face or digital watch?
Fly - Can you will yourself to fly or hover above the ground?
Palms - Do the palms of your hands look normal close-up?
Mirrors - Does your reflection look normal in the mirror?
Math - Can you add up two numbers for a correct answer?

I was thinking the same! Your lucyd dream was amazing! But you are also an excellent writer. I could understand what did you feel and see exactly the way you did! (or at least I suppose to! )

I've heard of it but I have never experienced one. I have had some odd dreams (or what I consider odd), but nothing that I think would be considered something like a lucid dream. At least from what I remember about them.

Let me tell you, it feels crazy when you realize in a dream, that you are IN a dream!
I know it might sound crazy... but I hope you guys experience it for yourselves. Just when you do, try not to get too excited when you become lucid... remain calm so you don't lose it.

My mother had had this kind of experience...It always find it weird!

I don't want to pop anyone's bubble or burst balloons here with what I am about to say. What you choose to think it your business, this is just my experience and also someone else's I am quoting.

I used to lucid dream. At first I was clueless on what was happening, what I was doing, or even how. I then looked it up and discovered it. Shortly after I had a lucid dream one day. I started dreaming.. All of the sudden I looked at the foot of my bed and saw a dark being. I was to frightened to look at it's face but I felt it was not good and something demonic. I felt led to start praying the best I could. The being left as soon as I prayed, the evil presence and feeling left the room. A peace came and I knew it was God. I was so intrigued by what happened I started searching, "Should Christians Lucid Dream?" One story after another had terrible and worse experiences but one stood out to me. Here it is below. (Sorry for any bad grammar, I didn't write it.)



Lucid dreaming is very dangerous. I was obsessed with it for around 4 years until this year when I became saved. The very nature of it is sinful because you go into a world where you can be like God where you can manipulate the world around you and do whatever your heart desires. In Genesis Eve was tempted when satan said you can be like God if you eat from the tree knowing good and evil. It got to the point where I was becoming lucid every day.

At first it was amazing and the funnest thing ever. After awhile my perception of reality was changing. I noticed that my desires in real life was slowly changing to wanting to be all powerful and hating people... I started hearing voices and thought it wasn't anything serious then strange figures started appearing in my dreams and I could sense somehow that they didn't belong there. They scared me because I had no power over them in my dreams and they told me things but i could never remember what they said when i woke up.

One time a dream character told me they wanted to show me something and lead me into a barn where a hooded figure with a blank pure black face looked at me and all i could hear was screaming and feeling extreme fear and instantly woke up and almost as if i could sense a demonic presence in my room. These things slowly continued to get worse and i was getting sleep paralysis allot and i would be stuck in my bed and id see figures in my room staring at me and sometimes approaching me trying to scare me.

The sleep paralysis experiences were getting worse and I was losing control over my dreams and i was fearing sleep and was having problems getting allot of sleep.
When i was awake id hear my name being called and no one would be there and i had the sense that i was always being watched and followed everywhere i go.

I went on a out of town job with my boss who is Christian and is an elder in the church my family goes to and through talking allot i decided to become a Christian again but still had no clue that i had demons following me around. I thought i was crazy and lucid dreaming had nothing to do with it. Well it turned out the demons I've acquired from my lucid dreaming obsession weren't happy I became Christian and what they did was the biggest wake-up call of my life.

I got home went into the basement where my room was and i lay down on my bed for literally 2 seconds and before i even close my eyes i feel something slam on me and i cant move and i hear screaming and laughing from every direction and everything felt like it was shaking i couldn't breath and i knew without a doubt that i was being attacked by something i couldn't see. I could feel the presence of something on me very powerful pushing me down. Then all i could think of was to call to Jesus and pray then a few seconds after it all stopped and was freaked out and talked to my pastor from the church and prayed and said i want nothing to do with these sins ever again and the voices and hallucinations went away and i felt like something inside of me was removed and a weight on my soul was removed.

They pretend to be friendly when they first come into your life but they wait for you to reach a low point and start to tell you to kill yourself or do terrible things when your weak. Whenever i would get drunk or do drugs the voices i would hear would get very loud and to the point where i came close to suicide while i was foolish and intoxicated and stopped caring about life.

I thank Jesus every day for getting my attention and saving me. Without the grace of God i was doomed for death and destruction and became freed from the enemies chains. They didn't just harass me they controlled my desires leading me to do destructive things to myself and others.

Please stay away from lucid dreaming. Its dangerous and opens the door to the enemy. The bible says that we first commit sin in our hearts and lucid dreams opens the door to pretty much massing any sin and when we sin we give permission to allow the enemy in.

That was an interesting dream you had. I am glad it had a positive outcome in the end though.
About the person you wrote about, it sounds like that person was obsessed with lucid dreaming. If you get to a point of not telling right away your real life from your dream world... I think that person has gone too far.

I have heard an opposite experience from what you posted. There was this woman who constantly had nightmares and so she went to see this guy who could teach her how to lucid dream so that she could take control of the dream and get rid of the nightmares. So the woman practiced and she started controlling her nightmares, she came to a state where if something scary happened, she knew she was dreaming and got rid of whatever scary thing appeared on the dream. Now she no longer has them, and loves to lucid dream from time to time and have these amazing adventures.

Some people do things in order to achieve lucid dreaming, but for others... those people will have them naturally. It is just something that happens that we have no control over when it happens. For example, I got excited knowing that I had this power to control my environment... but I KNEW that I was dreaming... I knew that what I was controlling was just my 'dream world', which is very separate from real life.

Use the dreams to not only sort out your day, but also to talk with God. Ask Him questions and speak to Him honestly about things on your mind or troubling you. Your relationship with Him will only grow stronger as long as you remember that through God ALL things are truly possible. Then use your dreams to do all the wonderful things you want to do. Go to the beach, on vacation, whatever.

My relationship with God is most important above all and I would not practice something that would bring demons to my life... not on purpose. I am not obsessed with lucid dreaming, it is something that I thought was fun and the night I HAD the lucid dream, I didn't even do anything that night to have a lucid dream... it just happened to me, all of a sudden, I became lucid.

Why, Julia! No demons in Carol's dreams. She is not obseded with lucid dreams. It's a great thing that happens to her and that's all.

My mother had some of those dreams in which she realized she was dreaming, and she experiences it since her childhood. Until now, her life is free of Satan. At least I don't see my mother is a person influenced by demons...
