| Just saw your thread and I am new here. I too have a bone spur in my left heel. Hurts like heck from time to time but I did find an insert that really helps. Mine started to hurt a couple of years ago. I was running 3 miles a day and the pain kept getting worse. I thought I could "tough it out" and keep on going. As I ran it would ease up about 5 minutes into the run. I would be fine the rest of the day until I woke up in the night or first thing in the morning. As soon as my foot touched the floor I had instant pain. So I decided to have it checked out and they found a spur. My running days were over but I have since moved to a low impact eliptical machine for my workouts. This is my actual foot: I had shots in the foot, ultrasound on the foot, electricity on the foot (which I thought felt good while it was being done, kind of like a massage but never did anything for the foot itself). I got custom made orthotics for about $400 that made my feet hurt worse. Then I found a website called Protherapy Supplies. I found a shoe/boot insert called Powerstep Pinnacle Maxx for $35 and free shipping. I thought "what the heck, if it doesn't work I will only be out $35". So I ordered it and love it. My pain went away in a day and I have worn them ever since. Also, this being Florida we were flip flops all the time and my podiatrist said not to wear them any more. Since I wear the Power Maxx in my shoe most of the week I can comfortably wear flip flops on the weekend. I told one of my brothers about them and he ordered them and swears by them too. Also, when I get some pain in my heel I can tape up my bare foot with athletic tape. This also feels good and stops the pain instantly. Just go to YouTube and search for taping foot for plantar fasciitis and there are tons of videos, just pick the one that works best for you. I ended up making up my own way of doing it that works best for me. Shots will help, but they will not be long term. Also try rolling your foot on a cold water bottle. Spurs are there to stay. My doc wouldn't cut it out. He said he no longer cut them out because they can grow back and it keeps you off your feet for 8 to 10 weeks and who can afford to be off work that long? Not me. Finally, I suggest reading the book "Why You Really Hurt: It All Starts In The Foot" by Burton Schuler. Search for it on Amazon, he was my foot doctor and although I did not like the custom inserts he made, he helped me out quite a bit and thankful I havent had to visit him in over two years now. Best of luck! Mike | |

| Hopefully I don't need surgery. I can't afford to be out of work. I sprained my ankle last year. I also have tendenitis and a rip in my longus tendon. My spurs are in my right foot and right foot has the bad ankle. My spurs burn and hurt almost every day. Thank you Rob and MikeInFla for the well wishes. | |

| I went to the orthopetic doctor yesterday. I have an air cast boot I have to wear for 24 hours a day for 4 weeks. He said I have arthritis in the bad ankle. I go back on October 23 to get a cortozone shot to help the pain. He said it looked like I had a bad sprain in my ankle that and the arthritis is what is causing so much pain. The aircast boot is keeping the swelling down.

| Thank you, Krissy. I haven't had any pain since I've worn the air cast boot. I do sometimes feel some burning from the spurs. I'm nervous about the shot. | |

| Thank you everyone. I still have to wear my air cast boot. Hopefully he doesn't say the word surgery when he sees the newer set of X-Rays I will have taken. | |

| yeah, those shots are a pain. When I had to get one the doctor asked "How are you with shots?". I said "Fine, no problem". He said "How are you with shots in the bottom of your foot?". I said "Probably terrible so I think you should give it to me in the arm". He said "No, it has to be in the foot". I said "Look, I'm applying the laws of gravity. If you give me a shot in the arm it will eventually work its way down to my foot". Needless to say he didn't agree and I got the shot in the foot. He did spray a can of "cold" on my foot. I do not know what it was, maybe cold air or freon, I don't know but it did help numb the pain. Luckily I didn't have to do it other than that one time. Had no problems lately but on occasion my heel hurts if I wear flip flops (and he said it would hurt again with flip flops). Most of the time I wear my work boots with inserts. | |
