I got letters...........

Subject: I got letters........... Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:59 pm

As many of you know, my middle son, Jacob went into the Air National Guard and shipped out July 10 for San Antonio for basic training. Well, I received a couple of short letters today, and needless to say, I am bawling here. They were written last week and he is having such a hard time. He says that he has had constant diarhea, throwing up, headaches and dizzyness since being gone. (sorry, I know, too much information) They get up at 4:00 am and run 5 1/2 miles in 40 minutes. He has church services on base and it made him cry, he didn't have his alto (me) and his bass (brother Josh) sitting to the left of him.

He was issued his rifle and they had to name them. He named his, "Rhonda" because "My gun is my power, just like you." He knows that I am with him every step of the way. He graduates August 24th and I pray that I can come up with the money to get down there to see him. By that time, we (Josh and I) will NEED that time with him. Please pray for the boy that he has the strength to get thru this as it is the hardest thing he has ever had to do. Pray for Josh and me to have the same strength to get through this too.

I was excited to see that I had a letter from him, but knowing he is sick and hurting so much and I can't be there to comfort him, hurt all over again......And to top it all off, he broke into the "Civilian Luggage Closet" where all of their civilian stuff is stored and got his cell phone and has been texting and calling us and his girl friend. I told him to put it back and with his luck, he will get caught doing that and be sent back to day ZERO!!! I hope it got put away!!!

It must have been tough to read the letter... I hope that you can go see him when he graduates.... days are sure flying by like I told you... I can't believe that August is about 7 days away....

That says a lot that he named his rifle after you. I would be so proud!

Aww, I hope and pray that he is able to kick some butt with his training!!! And that you and Josh stay very strong during this time. I hope he is feeling better now.

To name his rifle after you says a lot about Jacob's love for you. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. It's not easy for your son but to have such a strong family bond with you guys, Jacob will go through the training and graduate. What doesn't break him will only make him stronger. Thanks everyone........I know that Jake wouldn't want me to be sad, but our bond is SO tight, I think he feels my sadness the way I have been feeling his. In fact, I wake up in the mornings at 4:00, and it must be Jake saying, "Mornin' mom" because I feel his presence.....strange I know, but those of you with children understand the bond between a mother and her child. I appreciate your prayers and thoughts.........now to get busy and make sure he has a letter coming every day from me and others that know and love him.......

Make sure Jake knows he has a lot of people pulling for him. You and he, as well as Josh, have my prayers as always. I know you will get down to see him graduate in August, and I know that by that time, he will be through with this basic training and over his being sick. You are his strength, and that will help him through.

Aww that's beautiful that you have such a wonderful bond with your children. I am the same with my mom.

My heart goes out to you, Rhonda. I guess it's bad enough when one of your kids leaves home - I haven't got there yet - but to know that he's sick and missing you all must make it even harder. I hope you get to see him graduating. What a proud day that will be for you. In the meantime I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers and please keep us up to date on how he's getting on.
