| This is an awsome episode! How many friends would do that for us today? And isn't it just like Mrs. Olsen to push her merchandise on the Ingalls', only to stab them in the back later? |

| Yes this was an awesome episode and a good lesson in it, if you get an inheritence, don't spend the money until it is in your hands. Isn't it something to how fast Nellie wanted to be Laura's friend after she found out about the so called money that they inherited. |

| I'm just starting to watch this episode, and I thought it was so funny when Nellie had to stand in the corner at school! I thought, finally she is being punished! | |

| Makes you wonder why they would ever move to begin with. They always made it because of these friends. It is the lack of Christianity that has brought us where we are. Not a lack of churches or religious forms but of the real thing in our hearts. LIW.....Words From a Fearless Heart | |

| Ok I just watched this episode! It is ok. I dont think I will watch it again. The scene where nellie has to stand in the corner is funny. Sometimes life throws you under the bus. | I felt bad for the Ingalls family when they found out that they were broke! the citizens showed real love when they bought back all of Charles's things, including the farm, so the Ingalls family would be able to stay in Walnut Grove! |

| I haven't seen this one in a while but I remember the joy and then the horror when they saw the money wasn't real. Just once, just once, I would love to have seen the Ingall's family go to the store and just have fun buying some things that weren't really needed. Charles made good money at jobs, like in the Godsister, he made quite a bit and got 12.50 in a bonus. So march into Oleson's and buy Caroline a store bought dress, a doll for Carrie, a book for Mary or candy for Laura...something! I just got tired of seeing them get so close and then always lose it....more noticeable if you watch it often and not just once a week or less often. One time they were counting money I think and then Mary got hit with the horse, another time, hail came, different scenarios but the same. But they were the "richest family in Walnut Grove" | |

| I think this episode is very unrealistic. The real Charles and Caroline of the books would never had lost their heads over money, they certainly wouldn't go spending it before it was in their hands. It was a cute lesson at the end though, their friends did egg them on to spend money on the organ, books for the school, clothes at the mercantile, ect. So it was nice they all pulled together and bought the farm back for $.06. | |

| I didn't really like this one as much as it sounds like others did. I especially didn't care for the way that Charles was acting when Harriet was asking him to sign the lien on the farm. While Harriet did encourage them to buy the new clothes, it wasn't like she pushed them into buying the organ or the gifts for each other. So I do feel that she had a point that she had to do something to appease the creditors. And I also kind of doubt that Charles and Caroline would go ordering all those things before they had the money - yes, maybe the gifts for each other, but those larger items, no. And I was kind of irritated that Revd. Alden even asked them for the organ right away. Didn't anyone learn a less from THE VOICE OF TINKER JONES that the things purchased for the church should be purchased by the whole church rather than donated by one individual?
But I do think that everyone learned a bit of a lesson, and I do think it was sweet for the town to recognize that in a way, they were partially to blame for Charles being in so much debt.....and how they did what they did to help him. However, would the church really be able to "pull together" to pay for the organ? And also, do we ever once hear an organ in the church? I think they would have had to return it or sell it to some other church.
What I did love about this episode (besides when the town saved the Ingalls' farm) is how Harriet all of a sudden was best friends with Charles and Caroline when she thought they were so rich. Mrs. Oleson is so hilarious when she came out to the Ingalls' house to have coffee with her good friend Caroline! | |
