I haven't been on in quite a while and never posted much anyway but wanted to say hello. Kind of forgot about the forum. Life has been hectic since March. Our 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in March and our lives have changed forever. It was pretty scary at first but we are managing as best we can. She is now on an Insulin pump and that has been a blessing as has her Continous Glucose Monitor (if you don't know what one is, it checks blood sugar levels every 5 minutes and displays on our phones so we can see it anywhere, any time). Now that school has started it has been a battle with highs during the day (her alert just went off as I was typing this so I had to send a text to her to see if she needs insulin). If you don't know anything about T1D it is different than Type 2. Type 1 means her pancreas no longer makes insulin and she will be insulin dependant for the rest of her life - there is no cure and the cause is unknown. Lots of sleepless nights as we haven't slept a complete night since March but it is just part of it. Luckily my wife works at her school and her teachers are very understanding. She's been a trooper thru it all. She knows how to do finger pricks and can give herself shots but luckily with the technology and the pump shots are not needed and finger pricks have gone down (some days she never even does it unless she gets really high or low).
Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hello.

Hello, Mike! So sorry for the battle you are dealing with, especially when it is your child. She sounds like a little trooper! My son and his wife deal with my sweet grandson who has Prader-Willi Syndrome; which he will always live with. He's a little trooper as well. I'm glad that there is technology out there that can make things easier for her to deal with this. If you're on Facebook, I'm sure you have found many groups to join to get support throughout your journey, if not, give it a try. These groups really help and I know my son and his wife are on several and it helps them to know they are not alone...I'll keep your sweet daughter on my prayer list. And remember:

I think I have been away for almost a year. Life has been busy since April 2022. Last year in April I found out I was losing my job to a plant closure. I had 60 days to find a new job, sell the house and get moved.
To make a long story short I found a job in May 2022 and moved from Florida to Michigan in early June. Family followed me in July. It was terrible at first living in a hotel while we found a house but we eventually found a new house mid-July and have been loving life in Michigan.
Oldest daughter still in college at FSU but graduates in a couple of weeks and will move to Michigan to live at home while attending grad school.
So life is good just super busy.
