Sammy sings

My niece and nephews decided to name the Parakeet Samuel . . . .or Sammy. Well.........except for Caleby, who calls the bird Tweetie ........and Michael, who calls it Spot :unsure: ..... :Hahaha: So much for settling on one name.

The little thing is so gentle. The last Parakeet I had was . . . . . well, let's say he was rather on the unfriendly side. The moment you had the audacity to put your hand in his cage (to FEED him!!) he'd dig his beak into the nearest part of you and work his way up. Okay, okay.......maybe he wasn't THAT bad.
But this little fella is so sweet. He climbed onto my finger this afternoon, and rubbed his face on my hand. Then, when I was practicing piano, he just sang and sang. I'd never heard a Parakeet actually sing before - but he did! I can't wait for the children to hear him sing. He seems particularly fond of jazz-style music. I have an arrangement of "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho" that really had him chirping.

My cat, Thomas, has discovered my treacherous act of willingly bringing a winged creature into the home - and keeping it safely behind bars. He watches closely as I open the door to the bird's cage, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he's trying to discover the secret behind making that door rise. He's very clever, so I may have to declare the bird's cage :1053: "Maximum Security"

That's so cute about Sammy/Tweetie/Spot... :unsure: I always think parakeets are so sweet. I had one before, he used to chirp like there were 4 and 5 of them. Whenever I was on the phone, he would always "sing" and everyone always asked me if I had a whole bunch of parakeet in my house. Do you plan to train Sammy to talk Savannah? That's something I was never able to accomplish with mine. :sad5:

I'm going to try! He seems like quite a smart little bird. I could be mistaken, though.........and he could be dumb as a box of rocks. He's still a sweetie-pie, either way.

Our neighbors had one named Moses. He just died. When my dad came outside he would say, Hi Ray!!! It was so funny, the poor baby. I miss him!

My friend has a red macaw...a smart fella, when her mom goes to visit her and her kids, he would call out: "Hi Grandma." Her mom thought it wa one of the kids. :haha:

One of my friends had a parrot that would always say "Who's there??", in a voice that sounded JUST like her husband. Her husband was out of town, and in the night, someone started to break into her house. It woke the bird, and it started calling out "WHO'S THERE?? WHO'S THERE???" and scared off the burglar!

Savannah, that reminds me of the Far Side cartoon that showed a group of bank robbers holed up in a pet shop full of parrots. The head robber is saying, "Okay, I have the address of our new hideout. Now let's repeat it out loud about a thousand times so we don't forget it."
