| Subject: OWEN BUSH Tue Jul 01, 2014 1:56 pm | |
| He Not Only Visited The Prairie, But Mayberry as Well.....The laconic character actor Owen Bush was born on November 10, 1921 in Savannah, Missouri. Owen first became interested in acting in high school, when auditioning for a school play got him out of a boring study hall. In the late 1940s, Bush began working as a radio announcer, and in the early '50s, became a sportscaster on WDAF-TV in Kansas City. Like many television announcers in Kansas City at that time, Bush also frequently acted in industrial films made by the Calvin Company of Kansas City. There, he met the young director Robert Altman, who loved Bush's comic acting style and cast him in many short industrial "docu-dramas" as well as a bit part in Altman's first feature film, "The Delinquents," shot in Kansas City in 1956. In 1959, Altman who by this time was a busy director of episodic TV in Hollywood, convinced Bush to take a leave of absence from WDAF-TV and come out to California to play a regular role in a short-lived syndicated TV series Altman was producing called "The Troubleshooters." The show didn't get off the ground, but with some help from old friend William Frawley (of "I Love Lucy" fame) whom Bush first met during the making of an industrial film in Kansas City, Bush went on to become a popular radio personality in Los Angeles and also one of the most prolific character actors in movies and TV, not only appearing in many early-'60s Altman-directed episodes of the series "The Whirlybirds," "Maverick," "Peter Gunn," "Bus Stop", and "Bonanza", but also "on his own" in many episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gunsmoke" and in the movie "Valley of the Dolls". Bush kept on working steadily through the 1970s, '80s, and '90s, and most recently could be spotted in the movie "Best Laid Plans" and in a recurring role on the TV soap opera "Passions". One of the classic and most recognizable character actors, Owen Bush died on June 12, 2001, in L.A., aged 79. From 1953 through 2000, Owen piled up 128 screen credits….. One Little House EpisodeOwen appeared in three episodes of The Andy Griffith Show Off to Hollywood as Mr. Jason Goober's Contest as Mr. Hammond Opie's First Love as Doyle "Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?" "I must be Pa. I love you, I have for a long time." | |

| Dave, who is the actor on the left in the picture above from Home Again Part 1? I have been watching Father Murphy and he is a nasty character on that show. He might be a nice man in person but he just looks sour in whatever character he plays. | |

| Subject: DOUGLAS DIRKSON Wed Jul 02, 2014 7:07 pm | |
| This Is An Artist Alert For Lisa And Gin……………………….Douglas Dickson was born in Lewiston, Montana. He was in one Little House episode. He retired from acting in 2004 and returned to Montana. Please read his biography below and visit his web site for a look at some beautiful work. http://douglasdirksonfineart.com/This is Mr. Dirkson’s Auto Biography From His Web Site. I was born in Lewistown, Montana, but spent most of my youth on my grandparent’s cattle ranch in the Gallatin Valley. At around six or seven years old, I remember telling my mother I wanted to be in the movies. Well, down the road and a few years later, that is exactly what I decided to do for my life's work; to pursue a career in acting. For the next thirty years, I performed in nearly two hundred TV shows, TV commercials, films and theatre productions. In the early part of my career I was featured in shows like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Kung Fu, Columbo and later guest starred in Cagney & Lacey, LA Law, McGyver, Chips and many others. In those years I studied acting with the famous Lee Strasberg, and in 1979, Lee and Anna Strasberg invited me to teach for them at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Hollywood. I continued teaching for many years and then segued into directing and producing. Five years ago, I moved back to Montana with my wife Evelyn, and I retired from the performing arts. However, I certainly did not give up my creative roots; I turned to painting. I picked up my first paint brush while I was in Hollywood, and played around with painting for a month or so. What went through my mind was, “I think I like this better then acting.” That idea scared me to death. My whole life and my very nature revolved around acting, so I put the paints away. Now, I am completely involved and committed to my new career as a painter. I love the process and have a passionate desire to continue to be creative. I have taken several workshops from Scott Christensen and Aaron Schuerr. I appreciate their style of painting which has influenced me a great deal, and they have inspired me to render my work with a painterly approach There is a wonderful quote from the play, Our Town, by Thornton Wilder: "O' earth you are too beautiful for anyone to realize.” I am aspiring to accomplish this with my painting, by bringing the viewer into the awareness of how wonderful and beautiful God's gift of the natural world is. We are so blessed to have it and I create my paintings to glorify Him. "Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?" "I must be Pa. I love you, I have for a long time." | |
