Good question, I always thought of a fiddle lke for barn dances and folk music and violins for orchestra and band. Huh?

The only difference between a fiddle and a violin is how it's played. It's the same instrument, just different styles. I'd LOVE to play the fiddle.

I was wondering about this too...How strange. I like fiddle music as well as violin one. batEyes

I used to take Fiddle/violin lessons, and like Savannah said, it all depends on how it's played. For instance, Orange Blossom Special is fiddle, and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is violin. 🎻

The only flaw I have ever seen in this show is with Charles' fiddle playing. It is so obvious he is not playing.

I played the Violin in 5th grade, I was totally inspired by Michael Landon playing on the show. Then my son, Madison played the past two years with his middle school Orchestra. I still have my violin, and have always wanted to pick it up again. I think its a beautiful instrument.

I firmly believe Charles Ingalls was playing it, just not Michael Landon. LOL
