Misti i was Wondering a while back you made a Post about you made Hummingbird food and you even tasted it lol anyways i was wondering what kind of Hummingbird food did you all make? We Bought one of these Appel Shape Hummingbird feeders at Dollarrama and I made Nectar already so i could hang it up but back to my point is there more then just nectar like stuff they eat?

My recipe is simple. I put four cups of water and 1 cup sugar in a pan and barely bring it to a boil. Let it cool throughly and then pour it into the feeder.

Lots of people just mix it up really well but I heard somewhere if you boil it, the mixture spoils slower, so that's what I do.

The sugar water is just part of it; they also eat insects and stuff but the sugar water is just easy food for them and that's the way I do my part. They are on their own, as far as insects!

Misti, I use that same 4:1 ration of water to sugar. But I read somewhere that if you're putting out a feeder for the first time, it's a good idea to use only three cups of water to one cup of sugar. That way the sugar scent is stronger and the hummers are more likely to be drawn to your yard. Then after they're familiar with it as a feeding location, you switch to the 4:1 solution.

I've got a foolproof recipe.


I go to Wal-Mart and buy the mix.

I'd like to try to attract some hummingbirds this year. If not at home, then at the campground. Opie and Thomas really aren't very helpful in making birds feel welcome. They sit in the windows and show the birds their teeth. For some reason, that seems to make the birds a little uneasy.

Hummers generally aren't worried about cats. They're too fast.

Ok Thank you Misti and Rob I made 4 Cups of Water and 1 cup of Sugar but i made to much there was about one cup left after i had fill the Feeder how often do i need change the water in the feeder? Oh Larry that sounds Foul Proof alright lol

First i made Just from one Cup Water but that was not enough to fill the feeder so i made from 3 Cups of Water

Changing it once a week is probably okay, Jacob. Maybe a little more often when the weather turns really hot.

For looks, it's good to add a little red food coloring.
