I gave my friend, Patty, a ride home from church tonight, and a storm was brewing. It was getting really dark out, and because it was getting so dark.......there were HUNDREDS of fireflies out! It was such a beautiful sight! There's something magical about an evening field filled with little flittering, living lights! I couldn't stay long, since it looked like a tornado was considering that field for its residence. But it was just so beautiful! I'm not sure why, but for about ten years, we didn't have any fireflies around here at all. So now, they're even more of a treat for me to see.
I know this isn't a terribly interesting thread.......But you know me - Little things fascinate me.

I love watching the fireflies in our yard......even the puppy plays with them....he seems to think he can catch them....now, get the mental picture of a 60 pound puppy trying to jump through the air chasing fireflies..... :Hahaha:
Stay safe tonight Savannah......the weather is so crazy these days!!!

:Hahaha: I'd love to see that, Rhonda! Opie likes to try and catch them - but can't get that rotten screen out of his way! :Hahaha:
I forgot to add, in my original post..........When my niece and nephews and I caught a bunch of fireflies a while ago.....Michael wanted to put them in a jar and use them as a nightlight. :haha: I love the logic of a child.

Is Lighting Bugs the same as fire flies? They have neon butts.
I hope the weather was good for you last night.

Yup! Same creature, Susie.
Things quieted down quite a bit, thank you. It was looking pretty ugly for a while, but all we got was some rain. I didn't mind that a bit. It cooled things down into the upper 60s! It's supposed to be in the upper 90s again today, so I'd better take some water with me today.

Kelsey and I went out to a campground, near Brighton, on Saturday and spent the whole day there. When night fell, I was amazed at the amount of fireflies there. I had never seen so many at one place before. We don't get any by where we live, but we do go to that campground every year, and this is the first time I had ever seen so many at once. They are interesting to watch!

They are definitely more plentiful this year---I wonder what's up with that? I miss the days when my boys thought fireflies were interesting---somehow they just don't find the wonder in them that they used to! Oh. WHY do kids have to grow up?! :sad5:

And here I thought we were going to hear a deep, dark secret about how you still sleep with a nightlight. :haha:
We have lots of fireflies around us, but none so plentiful as the group we saw in Hadley when we went out to the movies ones night. Just beautiful!
:Hahaha: Cheryl! As a matter of fact, I'm quite the opposite. I have a DVD player in my bedroom, and I have to cover the little light on its display, or it keeps me awake. Same thing with a clock - I can't have an illuminated clock or it keeps me up at night.

I love watching fireflys in the woods. Just when in starts getting dusk, you can see the first one, then more, until the whole woods are lighted up!

I'll take this moment to put a scene from one of my favorite and sad anime films: "Grave of the Fireflies"

No fireflies here=( But I did see some when I went to North Carolina 29 years ago.

I lied. I said that we didn't get fireflies around where we live, but Kelsey saw one flying outside our living room window last night, and I saw a couple flying across the street. But, that was it!

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any in a long time myself. But when I was little, I used to love chasing them.
I spoke too soon! Last night, Mike and I went for Italian ice and the benches outside of the place were all taken, so we sat on the hood of the car. It was around 9 so it was dark, and I saw a firefly! Of course, I told him I had just been saying I hadn't seen them in awhile. Pretty ironic actually, LOL.
