| That's wonderful news, Pam!! I'm glad that your mom's surgery went well and that she is gaining weight again. It's so nice that she is in a different hospital that is making sure that her needs are met. I'm sure that makes you and your family feel better about things too. Maybe this will lift your mom's spirits, just being in a better place. | |

| That new hospital was so great last night after she first got there, and while family was there, but she didn't get her meds at all through the night last night. Then she is supposed to be on IV antibiotics because of her bedsore and hasn't gotten them at all since she's been there. They took forever getting ahold of the dr. and finally a nurse came in and said that the dr. okayed it and that she'd get set up with them, but as of 5 o'clock tonight, she still hadn't gotten them. Oh will the frustration ever end???? | |

| Oh ARGH! Pam, I can so sympathize. When my Dad was in the hospital, in so much pain, it took HOURS before they finally got him anything! I know that they need to be cautious, but that's just wrong. And for your Mom to not have her antibiotics... that's just scary! I'm still praying. | |

| Just updating about my mom. She's still in the hospital and is still on IV antiobiotics. As of right now she is supposed to remain on the antiobiotics until the 16th, and then be discharged from the hospital. She is still extremely weak, especially since she's only been able to be in bed for all this time (5 weeks now), laying on one side or the other. Her dr. just gave her the okay to sit up at a 90 degree angle, for a short time. But, her phys. therapist warned her that it is going to be painful because her muscles have contracted from laying in bed for so long. I know she isn't even going to be able to hold herself up.
It's going to be a challenge, but we are going to try to have her come home, rather than go into a nursing home. She will have her regular home health aide, still for 3 hours every morning, and hospice will be involved. If need be, we may look into having more care for her in the evenings. It may end up being more than my dad can handle (of course we will all help out), but we want to try this rather than a nursing home. She has always said that she doesn't want to go into a nursing home, and during this hospital stay she said that if she had to go into one, that she wouldn't even eat, and that she would just want to fade away. She's had some bad experiences. She is still very apprehensive about going home, because she is so weak, she doesn't know that my dad can handle her. None of us know at this point.
If you can please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers, especially during this transition, it would be greatly appreciated.

| It sounds like some trying times lie ahead for all of you Pam. But I think it's good that you all at least want to try to keep her home for awhile. At least that way you can live with the knowledge that you (and your dad) gave it your best effort, you know? I know I'd feel the same way. Take care of yourself Pam, and know that we're all praying for you and hoping for the best. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| I just wanted to update that my mom came home from the hospital yesterday. It wore her out, but she seemed in good spirits. They had to bring her home in an ambulance because she isn't strong enough to sit up in the wheelchair yet, and all the jostling while sitting up would have been way too much for her. As it was, they had to carry her in to the house cacooned in bed sheets because they wouldn't have been able to squeeze the gurney into the back bedroom.
She had some movement in her right arm still before she got sick, but once she got sick, that movement left her too. Since she couldn't push the call light for the nurse with her hand, they gave her a special call light to use that they placed under her cheek so that all she would have to do to set her off. Well, one night a couple of nights ago the light wouldn't go off when she needed the nurse, so somehow she was able to get that right arm up to the pillow to push the light. She says she knows that God was with her, because she wouldn't have been able to do that on her own. Since then she has been able to move that arm some, so that is something very good. Maybe in time she will continue to get a little stronger.
I'll go over there in a bit to see how she tolerated her first night at home, and how my dad is handling things. We still don't know if my dad will be able to handle her or not, but maybe with Hospice involved, and if we can hire some extra help, it'll all work out. I hope so!

| I'm happy to hear your mom is home Pam! I'm sure you're all very happy too! Great news about her arm---her spirits are up I'm sure, and that can have a lot to do with one's physical abilities. So great to hear there are some good signs---God is with her indeed! I'll continue to pray for her as well. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| She's hanging in there, Amy. She seems glad to be at home. It's been a little hard on my dad because my mom is relying on him too much. I go there almost everyday to try to give him a break, but it's still hard. But, I have to say, she is doing much better than I thought she would. Two days after coming home, she already attempted taking a shower. My dad had to help old her up while her aide bathed her, but she did it! And she said the shower felt great. I imagine it would after almost 2 months of sponge baths. On the third day home she sat up in her chair in the family room for a bit and she's been getting up out of bed and sitting out in the family room a little bit each day. So, she's doing better than I ever expected, which is wonderful! I'm a little concerned right now though because I went there today and she seems to have a build-up of phlem that she can't seem to bring up and I just hope it's not the start of something else. But I'm going to go over there and check up on her again tomorrow and see how she's doing. She still got up today and everything, so that is good. Thanks for asking. | |
