Marching band

My son is a Freshman at Western Michigan University and had his first home game two nights ago!

We had a blast watching him out there...they all did a great job!

Great pics Amy......reminds me when BJ was in marching band.......you could pick him out by they way he stood and marched.....he was right on with the steps and the stance......Good Luck to Brendan!!!

Brendan is actually having to 're-learn' how to march. His high school band director used more exaggerated sharp movements---they looked like a military band! Western's band director is more about 'fluid' movements, which I don't prefer. I still enjoy watching it, and they have to really 'let their hair down' with some of the fun moves in the college band, but I liked that 'military' style that his high school band had. I could pick Brendan out occasionally, but half the time they're moving just too darn fast! LOL!

And my mom has a great set of binnoculars, but unfortunately she's always hogging them! (Imagine that! LOL). And she's blind as a bat anyway...it's not like she can see him even through the binnoculars! So I am actually thinking about getting a nice set for myself, especially if we're going to be doing this for the next 4 years!

I think instead of binnoculars, I'd invest in a great camcorder and video the routine, take it home and enjoy it all week long......save tape, and go to the next game and tape it again.......BJ is trying to get some of the old tapes of his band on the field, especially since all 3 years in high school, he had a solo.........

Rhonda, BJ must have been one great player! Brendan could never do a solo---he's good, but not that good! His high school always sold copies of dvds of the routines, so I hope that will be the case at college. I do need a better camcorder---ours isn't like these new super small ones. That's a really good idea Rhonda!

Thanks Christina! Yes, it is really exciting---high school was too, but this is a whole other ballgame, so to speak! Yes, Brendan LOVES college so much already! It's not all work and no play, at least so far. He's had three "Capture the Flag" days already! So they really make it fun and band is a good way to get some thing 'non-academic' in there to break things up. He was just assigned his first paper today so RL is about to hit him hard, I'm sure. He's coming home by train this weekend----I'm so excited to see him again!

You're welcome Lily, and thank you! I'm a proud mama, can you tell? And LOL, I have to ask him what he wants for dinner Saturday night, but I have a couple of favorites in mind! I'm sure he's ready for a home-cooked meal! But I must say, my hubby & I ate in the dining hall and they have GREAT food! It's not all junk either...lots of food made from scratch and plenty of veggies too. Of course, I don't know that he's actually EATING those, but it's nice to know they're offered.

I wanted to share some exciting news! Western Michigan University is playing at the Texas Bowl Game in Houston!! That means that my son will be marching there as well!! How I wish I could go! We're all really excited for him...he's anxious to travel---he's never been on a plane before!
