| [Note from Carol regarding Editing] Since I do the Episode Reviews, I have been given acces in the Episode Reviews forum to edit, move posts so that all posts regarding an episode stay together. If I post an episode review that has some post already started.... instead of me using the quotes feature... I will just edit the first post of whoever started the thread about that episode to include the pictures of the episodes at the top of the thread. That way, all comments and posts remain in their original form. [End of Carol's Note]"CASTOFFS" When Laura's dog, Jack, dies, her Pa gives her a new dog, Bandit, after the dog follows him home. Although the dog seems very friendly to Laura, Laura doesn't want it. When Laura later visits Aunt Kezia, a lonely woman, she realizes that she really loves Bandit. This episode is hard to watch... specially if you have experienced loss of a pet. Our beloved Jack dies in this episode... I always cry in this one when they are on the hill burying him We are also introduced to Kesia! She is such a character. By the way, did any you know she came out on Mary Poppins? Anyway, even though it is sad because of Jack's death, I really like this episode. ---------------------------- (ingallsfan2008 said....) I enjoyed this episode. though it was very sad when Jack died, I was happy when Charles gave Bandit to Laura and then finally Laura accepted the dog. I didn't like the fact that the citizens of Walnut Grove didn't accept Kezia just because she was "different", she seemed like a great lady to me! I was also happy when Kezia was allowed to stay in Walnut Grove, I think I remember seeing her in a later season | |

| I often wondered- if Bandit was Laura's dog- then why didn't he go with her when she got married?
Hermione Baddely (Kezia) is one of my favorite guest stars...

| This episode has some very good lessons on accepting people/things as they are. | |

| I cried when Jack died. It's hard loosing a pet. Laura wanted nothing to do with Bandit. Keezia made her realize she needed Bandit in her life. | |

| Every time I watch this epie , my tears are running down my cheecks toward the end, when they shows Bandit running happily among the grass. At first, Laura was very harsh to him and I can't barely stand it. Vanesa. | |

| I know, as a dog lover, I was happy to see them bond. In The Godsister, you get to see Jack again for a cameo appearance in heaven. | |

| Yeah, I can't believe how mean Laura was to Bandit. She even threw a stick at him when he followed her to Kezia's place. Thankfully, Kezia was able to get Laura to understand that she could remember her love for Jack and still find room to love Bandit. I'm not sure if a real dog would do this, but kudos to Bandit for forgiving Laura and accepting her belated affections. | |

| I read a short piece about the owner of Jack and how she felt bad he had to be killed off but Michael wanted to have an episode about that..she had to reassure people he was still alive at the time.
It was also sad when Alicia's puppy died but the "fake" Reverend played by Johnny Cash was sweet in his words to her.

| OMG, I used to think Jack was kind of an ----- dog. He barked at the horses until they kicked Mary and sent her to the hospital, he spooked Mr Sprague's horses and ran them into a tree.
But, Jack's death was SO SAD! I absolutely cannot watch this episode ever again!!!

| Ok, I did watch this episode again. Jack's death is definitely the saddest scene in the entire series for me. Melissa Gilbert was incredible in those scenes.
Also, this episode introduces Jonathan Garvey, but he just sort of plops in. If the Garveys and Ingalls were going to be close friends, they should have introduced them properly, like them coming in on a wagon, and Alice and Andy being there. Just really strange for Jonathan to all of a sudden just "show up" in Walnut Grove. They gave a much better introduction to Bandit. Speaking of Bandit, he was really a well-trained dog. They say border collies are one of the most intelligent dogs.
