| I started watching this episode, but never finished it. Where I left off, I know that Albert and Laura were trying to help their sick friend reach the ocean. how does this episode end? | |

| It's been a while since I've seen this one, but as I recall, Charles catches up with Laura and Albert and accompanies them to San Francisco and their friend does get to see the ocean. This one isn't really one of my favorites. One thing I've noticed is that the episodes that take place away from Walnut Grove are usually not among my favorites. There are a few exceptions, such as "To Live With Fear", "Gold Country", and some of the Winoka episodes. | |

I just saw this one.....Pa goes looking for the kids and finds them. He wants to take them back but is convinced by the kids to go to the ocean. They all hop the train (funny) and end up going to the ocean in San Francisco.....it was really heart wrenching knowing the young boy was going to die and to watch him jump in the water...a real tearjerker. “I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.” ― Laura Ingalls Wilder | |

| “It was a huge shock when it came and very excited“ This was the duchess of cambridges take on how she felt when William proposed during their official engagement interview with ITN reporter Tom Bradby. There was a real giggle at the end. Cute. | |

| My lord... how many days would a train trip from MN to San Fran take? The epi seems to truncate the train travel in a big way. They probably would have had to switch trains several times before somehow getting to Omaha where the Central Pacific had a line to San Fran. I know... it's TV... suspend disbelief but these little things always bother me.
Oh... and what happened to the horse Charles rented to run down the train? He just tied it to a post at the train station then went off with the kids on this big adventure.
The other thing that jumped out was them meeting William Randolph Hearst. Hearst was born in 1863... epi was circa 1880. Hearst at 17 in San Fran running a paper? Nope. He was at east coast prep schools and then Harvard until 1885 then entered the publishing business in 1887.
Heart-warming story seeing their terminally ill friend finally getting to see the ocean though.
