| So here you are... happily living your life... then there are times when it hits you. You say something and you realize you are not as young as you used to be. You think to yourself: "When did this happen?! I hate getting old" Okay, not THAT old lol ... but you know... definitely not in your teens anymore lol So, in this thread, talk about some incidents that happened that made you realize you are not a young lad anymore. ************* Well, for me it was a time I was chatting with some teenagers from church and they were discussing some things they did in school and then I used the phrase: "Well... back in MY day....." Yep, it was a sign... that I am getting up there in my years... | |

| Good topic! Lately I've noticed that salesgirls have begun calling me "honey" and "sweetie," like they do with non-threatening older men. I hate that. I want to threaten. | |

| Haha!! Ok I know I'm not old yet, but I was working with some day camp kids today and one asked me if I had tv's when I was little......... Sometimes life throws you under the bus. Way back in the 1990s, when dinosaurs thundered across the plains. When my cousin Kathie was about 14, she was at a laundromat and she picked up a book that was laying there. A little girl of about 8 or 9 came up to her and said, "Lady, that's my book!" Poor Kathie was traumatized. "She called me lady! I'm old!" At 14?!?! Whoa. Now I really feel ancient! Well, the idea that I am getting old crossed my mind tonight actually. I HAD to get groceries after an exhausting day, and as I'm shuffling through the grocery store at about an hour in, I realized that I must resemble and old lady! I seriously need to start working out! It really hit me I was getting older though last fall, when my son started college. That'll do it to anybody I suppose! “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| Well, they always said I was born at 40 (waits for Rob to think of a good joke) so I must always have been old.
It hit me at church the other day when I began complaining about the lyrics of current songs. Here I am a fan of Cheap Trick and KISS, yet some of today's lyrics seem so nasty and vulgar to me.
Oh, and there's always that conversation when I try to explain to my girls that cell phones and the Internet didn't exist when I was a kid and they look at me like I have sprouted an extra head and five arms. Yep, I feel old then

- Well, I will be 51 in August, and let me tell you right now....."I AIN'T OLD!!!" I refuse to grow old, in fact, this weekend, while I am in Missouri, I will be riding a bicycle for many miles and then going to Silver Dollar City again, and will be riding roller coasters!!! OLD??? Not this lady!!! My life has JUST begun!!! :Hahaha:
"Old" has nothing to do with age, for me. It's all about attitude. I've met people who are 23 and are much more of an "old person" than some of my friends who are in their 80s.
I hope you have a marvelous time, Rhonda!

I hear you Cheryl! Computers/internet are a biggie with my kids---they can't fathom us not having had them! And I actually kept my old walkman. (why I have no idea )...they find that pretty hilarious. Hey, I LOVED that thing! What really makes me feel old is when I go into an antique store, and see some of the stuff I used to have, being sold as 'antiques', LOL! - Savannah wrote:

I hope you have a marvelous time, Rhonda! Me too Savannah....my dad is one of them---he works out daily on his treadmill, spends lots of time with his church friends, and has a great attitude about aging. My mom on the other hand, although in great shape, seems to be hindered sometimes by the 'number'. She knows where HER parents were at her age, and that makes her feel old. But I keep telling her....70 is the new 60! And 40 is the new 30, ahem. At least, that's what I tell myself....right Cheryl? Rhonda, have a GREAT time! I'm so glad you have found a new zest for life!

| Wow. When I can think of things that make me feel really old. 1. 7 Up came out when I was a kid. It was the un-cola, lol. 2. The tabs on soda and beer cans pulled all the way off 3. These were the bottle tops for soda bottles with cork in the top (there were no plastic bottles) and had to be removed with a bottle opener, no twist-off, lol. 4. Only lap belts in cars. 5. Silver Christmas tress with rotating color light were all the rage, lol. Spring is finally here, the lovely pink blooms on the "spray" tree outside my window are gone leaving a beautiful willow. | |

| Oh man, a thread after my own heart.
When I was 17, I could run a mile in 4minutes and 15 seconds.
Now I get winded going to the mail box.
I used to be one skinny scarecrow.
Now I can barely button my britches.
I used to have a nice set of teeth.
Now they're a disaster area.
I could go on and on...lol
