Oh my goodness!! What a shame. An article I read said he'd had a bad landing on a plane the day before, and that something heavy landed on his head. He went to bed that night not feeling well. What a freak thing to happen to someone!

My husband just told me about this. It reminds me of the way Natasha Richardson died from that skiing accident a few months ago. She had hit her head, was fine, and then all of a sudden, passed away. Very sad........................

I agree! it's sad to see so many celebrities pass away in one week, even though I wasn't fans of any of them

When I was coming into work today I heard on the news that the official cause of death was heart disease.

Yeah, I heard that, too. Apparently that bump on the head didn't have anything to do with it.
Tonight on one of the news channels, a reporter made a very insightful comment about Billy's death: "This will probably mean the end of his career." Gee, ya think??

gee I'd sort of hope, for Billy Mays, that it would be the end of his career!

Oh my goodness, did they really say that?! :faint2: Was that a local news station Rob, or national? Wow, that's pretty bad!
Honestly, I'm surprised to see all the commercials being run....it just seems strange.

It was one of the national news channels - Fox or CNN or MSNBC - and it actually made a bit of sense in the context it was said. These guys were talking about Billy, and one asked if his commercials would continue to air. The other guy said that he doubted if many companies would want a dead man advertising their products, "so this will probably mean the end of his career." Just hearing it as a stand-alone line struck me as funny.

I couldn't believe this when I saw it on TV. I was catching a bit of news at the Cape and this came on. How sad. Man, the entertainment industry is really taking a beating.

Ah true...I guess that does make more sense in context.
So much for the companies not wanting to run commercials with a dead man though....I've seen ads at least 5 or 6 times since I heard the news.

Billy Mays was from here. He was just on our local news about a month ago. They interviewed his mom who still lives here and she was talking about how proud she was of her son. Poor thing. He has a grown son and a 3 year old daughter.

:shy: I've never heard of him. (I don't watch much tv, though.) How sad for his family. It sounds like this was something completely unexpected.
Was that a current clip of him, Rob? He didn't look like he was very old.

I'd never really heard of him until this happened! at least I don't think I had... I think he was about 50 when he passed away.

Thanks, Kristina.....I thought he looked pretty young. And I should have said I hadn't ever heard of him, because after reading this thread, I obviously have!

All these people knocking off at 50 is making me really nervous. I am seriously thinking of making a will.

I was surprised by this, and the family certainly wasn't happy this information was released. There are times when I wonder if we really need to know everything.
