Yes, again, already. It's time for the AuSable Canoe Marathon! I know I bring this up every year, but it's a big deal in our town. Ninety teams of canoeists (two paddlers per boat) will start out at 9 PM and race through the night till they reach the town of Oscoda, on the shores of Lake Huron. It's exciting!
Here's a promo featuring the 2007 race.

I love hearing about things like this! I hope they have a great night for the race. Wow.....I'm watching the promo as I'm typing, and they really put some oomph into their paddling!
This might be a dense question.....but are there many locals who enter? It looks like such a big race, I'm guessing you get canoers from all over! It sure doesn't look like a race for the faint of heart! (Or for the aquaphobic. )

Well let's see... of the 180 participants this year, I'd say maybe one-quarter are from the Grayling area. Lots of other paddlers from the upper midwest and Canada.

Definitely not! It's 120 miles of hard, steady paddling, so you wanna make sure those arm, shoulder and back muscles are toned.

Oh, I have that part covered. I get lots of arm, shoulder and back exercise.

Oh, I didn't see this before. Sorry!
The team of Andy Triebold (Spring Arbor, Mich.) and Steve LaJoie (Quebec), won the marathon for the second straight year. Their time was 14 hours, 17 minutes. It was 19 minutes off the all-time record of 13 hrs, 58 mins, set in 1994.

Oh, that's okay. I just figured that you were ignoring me.
This makes the third time they've won, doesn't it? Seems like I remember, last year, you saying that they had won the marathon in 2004 or so.
