How did Miss Bedal get paid?

I was just wondering, where would Miss Bedal have picked up her pay? I doubt if she worked directly for the town of Walnut Grove. She was probably hired by the state or township (not sure if they even had counties), but I doubt if they would've sent her cash in the mail. Before the bank opened up, could she have cashed a check at the Olesons'?

I recall when Laura was hired as a teacher, she was quoted a pay and it would be sent to her. Not sure if it was cash directly to her or if it was wired to her.
