I got a new car!!!

Well, new to me!

It is a 2001 Buick. 69,000 miles. My old one was a Buick, too (1993). So I kind of trust these cars. Anyway, I have to say that it is actually odd riding smoothly, having brakes that don't squeal and clunk, having a straight steering wheel and not inhaling all of the deadly fumes!! I was so used to the other one that I am actually paranoid about every little thing with this one (I got to the point with the old car that the mechanic - who wants to make money - told me it wasn't worth fixing). I do like some of the perks (i.e. the rearview mirror dimming the headlights, the radio/temperature controls on the steering wheel, et.c.). But I do hate the fact that it is leather. I HATE LEATHER!!! And the smell of the leather is terrible. Yuck! But it was incredibly clean. And it did pass the emissions every time (that is important as my old one never did). I will probably have to take it for the test next month. So I am fully expecting it to pass! It had gone for 2 this year and passed both. So hopefully it will this time, too!

Well, I am hoping that this is the start of good things. Now that I have a reliable car, I can put more of an effort into looking for a job (you guys have NO idea how bad the other car was!).

Anyway, I just thought I would mention this to all of you.

Thanks! It is a relief! I spent a year finding something in good and clean condition with low mileage that wasn't going to send me to the poor house.

Good on ya! Thought it might have been some kind of sports car. I think only Fife likes those so he can chase people of the prairie.

That is low mileage on a 2001! Sounds like you found a good buy! We had a Buick Century for a LONG time before I was hit by a drunk driver in it. (Incidentally, that car was smashed to smiterines and I walked away with a gash on my knee from the dashboard and pulled muscles in my back. Apparently it was designed right! ).

I am actually really liking this car (I still wish it was black, though). My old one was a Century. This one is a Park Avenue. Yeah, I'm upper class now.

Two things don't work in it, though. I have the controls (for the radio, et.c.) on the steering wheel now. And the one doesn't light up. Not a big thing, of course. But then there is the heated seat issue. Mine doesn't work. The other one does. In fact, it gets very hot. I kind of don't care, but I was really cold a couple of weeks ago. I put the Christmas lights up and I was outside for quite awhile. I had it almost finished when I discovered that the lights on the bush were out (they worked inside the house!! ). So I had to go get some lights. I was COLD. That was a moment when I wished that the seat worked! So maybe I will look into getting that fixed. It is going to be brutal next week and I have a class on Monday night. So too bad it won't be working then either. The car does heat up pretty well, though. So I at least have that.

My old one is still sitting in the back. I called somebody before Thanksgiving to come take it. Supposedly they were the kind of company that will pay you and so on. That was it, though. The guy never came out and never called me back. I kind of don't care about the money. I just want it gone. But now with the snow that will be coming this weekend, it looks like it will be sitting there until spring.
