| Well, now that my neighborhood is part of a Neighborhood Watch program and helping with the Newsletter, I have been more informed of crimes, robberies and home invasions than before. It is scary to see what some people do to try and break in and rob something. Six people were recently arrested in a nearby town, their pictures came out in the Newspapers. These people were using children as young as 3 years old to appear more trustworthy. A pregnant woman and her friend went to a home and asked the homeowner if she could use her bathroom because she was having some bad pregnancy complications. The homeowner let them in and that is all it took for the owner to get robbed. Seems like you can't trust anybody! I simply do not open the door anymore if it is someone I do not know or am not expecting. I don't care if they have little kids with them. | |

| We hear more and more about home invasions around here. Either people breaking into homes or using some sort of scam to gain entry. The scams are used largely on the elderly, which is infuriating taking advantage of people like that. I think with tough times these types of problems become more common. | |

| I tend to be too trusting at the door too---we have soliciters a lot and I need to just not answer the door! I guess I need a 'no soliciting' sign and then I wouldn't have to worry about it.
Pam, I agree with you...the scams on the elderly (whether home invasions or anything relating to money) are absolutely sickening. I worry about my mom now---with her mind going I'm afraid she's going to think just about anything is legit. I'd prefer she not answer the phone at all!
And Carol, I was thinking recently how we have to be more careful than ever, with this economy and at Christmas time. I watched some show recently that was saying a sliding glass door is the number one way for robbers to break in, that it's super simple to get through. We have just a small wooden dowel that we put down every night and I feel much safer having it there....it's all you need to do the trick! | |

| Security is the great issue nowadays and everywhere. My country used to be safe enough to live. There were not so much crimes and robberies back in time, but nowadays it's like you are commenting about the States...And yes, the major target are the elderly people, or children ..or turist, since they don't understand our language very well.
