Maybe that's what went wrong with her...maybe her grandmother was even a worse mother than Harriet was to Nellie!

Yes. She had lied about her mother abuses. Charles spoke with the Orphanage Superintendent and he told him Nancy had been raised by her grandmother. When Nancy was born, her mother died...It seems that her granny had been a very caring one, but she just couldn't take care of Nancy for she was too wild and mean, so the poor elderly lady must give her to the Sleepy Eye orphanage. Huh?
