And years later, the worst thing Mrs. Oleson did was to give "Little Lou" a hard time in Season 9.

Oh I knew Laura was punished, I meant with Mary, (didn't explain well) Mom Ingall's was so torn up about it, talking the the reverend, etc. If she was just late home, something like that, forgot to get the eggs, but she said, "I told you so many times" so she knew about the lamp and barn, etc. and how that would effect the whole family. It wasn't like they had fire trucks to come.

I know Laura was sorry, but she did push the envelope often.

Oh, I misunderstood. But Mary was punished in the episode where she started the fire in the barn. I know Caroline regretted her decision to punish Mary by not letting her take the exam, but after talking to Rev. Alden, she stuck with the punishment after all.

Mary was punished.  After all that studying she did, Ma wouldn't let her take the test that was given.  Instead, she wrote a note to Miss Beadle telling her why she wasn't allowed to take the test. yes

Bump  This is what I said about Mary being punished.....

Right Rhonda, she absolutely did get punished. Caroline wasn't sure she made the right decision about it, but in the end she kept the punishment and Mary didn't take the test.

Yes, I just meant as a Mom, I don't think I would have doubted that punishment but I'm glad they didn't show Caroline being that mushy.; )
I liked the letter part the best.

That is what I thought you probably meant. I liked the ending of that one where she wrote the letter and then when Caroline went out and found her sitting by the tree.

Solid episode - I wonder how much a dictionary like that (with atlas and sky map) would cost in the 1870s?

Nellie was never as nasty as in this episode; besides being very mean she also looked ugly compared with Laura and Anna.
