Some schools here(said on news) are cutting back on libaries and replacing them with a media room.Has much has i like internet.I like books. In high school i never want to look info up online.I liked using the books. It seems like comptures are taking books place. Pluse sometimes comptures/internet is down and then what you do? lol

what do you think?

I perform most of my research online, but then I go for books on the subject. Here in town the school libraries are staffed by one librarian who travels school to school. The rest of the time they are manned by parent volunteers.

I think libraries must not be taking out of High Schools, even if computers are useful to perform research for projects and all. I think that books and computers must be used side by side.

That is sad to me, and I hope it doesn't happen. There is so much you can do online, and these days you can replace a book with an e-reader (kindle, nook, etc.). But, to me, there is nothing like an actual book. It would be nice to see, instead of a traditional library, a library that has both options, technology, as well as traditional reading material. I think it would optimize research and would give patrons/students exposure to both. Our schools here do have both.

I know around here, when communities need to make cutbacks, it seems one of the first things that seems to go on the chopping block is the public libraries.

Our public libraries offer both--printed and eBooks on loan. I don't use that option because I have so many books sent to me that I really don't need the library. One of the things that could be considered, and which happened in a neighboring town, is for the library to be run privately instead of by the local government. That way state budget cuts don't affect it. The challenge is that residents of the town with the privately run library cannot use other libraries because they are no longer part of the public library system.
