Mosquitoes!!! Empty
PostSubject: Mosquitoes!!!   Mosquitoes!!! EmptyFri Aug 12, 2011 3:35 pm

Ok, so we've had our cool down, are enjoying the breeze through the windows, and can enjoy being outside again....Or can we? Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for this weather, VERY much so, but the mosquitoes are rampant!!! This hardly seems fair! Even in bug spray, the kids and I are all chased inside!! This hardly seems fair, after being cooped up in our homes forever due to the crazy heat! Yikes And the strange thing is, it's been fairly breezey the last three days, which usually keeps the mosquitoes at bay. What on earth?! scratchead

Are any of you experiencing the invasion of the mosquitoes in your areas? And if your repellent is working, what kind is it? Ours obviously isn't! I've used Avon Skin So Soft and Cutter---so far neither of those are doing the trick. My son leaves for band camp on Sunday and I want to make sure he has something that works!!

When my boys were little, we called them "Skeeter Eaters" because that is what they did...... HeeHee I have used 'OFF! Skintastic'. I sent it to camp with my boys when they were still home...I have also used Avon's SSS and it works pretty good......I wouldn't recommend this, but when I went through my chemo, they would land on my skin...."smell/taste" the chemo and fly off....I was the ONLY one in the family not getting ate up from them.....haha.....Now last night, while talking to a friend on the phone while sitting on the deck, I got ate up and now I am all itchy..... Yikes

Just found this online....

Things You'll Need
Listerine
Spray bottle

Instructions

1. The best way of getting rid of mosquitoes is Listerine, the original medicinal brand.

2 . The dollar store brand works too. I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared.

3 . The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.

4. It kills them instantly. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle so it is not as expensive to use as the can of spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. It will last a couple of days.

5. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames and even inside the dog house if you have one.

DRYER SHEETS.....yes....DRYER SHEETS. Put one in the pocket of every kid and they will not bite. IT works....I promise. WHY? I dont know.

We have a guy that changes our church sign every week and he is in a swarm of skeeters as he does it. I asked him once if he was eaten up and he pulled out a dryer sheet. He said as long as he has that in his pocket he never gets bit. Let me know how it works.

We were camping Sat. - Tues., and Kelsey came home covered in bites. For whatever reason, she didn't use bug spray even though there was plenty and I had brought it outside for everyone to put on. I used Deep Woods Off and didn't get any bites. I usually buy the aerosol, but the store didn't have it, so I bought the pump spray, and it actually smelled really good and kept the bugs away.

Hmm, that Listerine spray sounds like a great idea! Thanks Rhonda! Thumbsup

I was at my sister's house tonight and my BIL said that they use some Ortho bug be gone stuff, that hooks up to you hose and your spray the yard with it. He said it REALLY works. I think I'll try this since I need to do such a large area.

I'll try the dryer sheet idea and let you know, Gin. It would be awesome if that really worked!

Pam, I think yours is the winner for Nick this coming week....someone else had mentioned Deep Woods Off to me too. I guess I'll send that with Nick and hope for the best! Yikes
