| Isaiah Edwards narrowly saves his daughter Alicia from a falling tree, but not without being badly hurt himself. He is left with feelings severe worthlessness.Grace writes to the Ingalls about the accident. Charles decides to go and see them and he brings Laura along; hoping that Isaiah's special bond with her will ease his spirits Although I it's not one I'd watch all the time... this is a great episode... | |

| I liked it for the friendly bound shown between Laura and Isaiah. I think that LHOTP is not LHOTP without Mr. Edwards and the special friendship between him and Laura. Vanesa. | |

| I just saw this episode.....not a favorite of mine. Good ending “I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.” ― Laura Ingalls Wilder | |

| I think it was wonderful how their friendship stayed until the end. I wish the writers were kinder to Mr. Edwards, but that's not what they wanted, he suffered a lot.
I like how in the episode where he marries Grace, Caroline says (paraphrasing) The children are fine, Mr. Edwards has taught them all how to spit further than anyone in Walnut Grove."
Coming from her thoughts on the first episode to that was worth a smile. : )

| I forgot about that part, wanting to kill himself, hadn't seen it in a while. Michael had that happen a few times, seemed like that dark feeling came up with his father, (that was awful, wanting to burn?) the old guy at the gold mine who lost his wife and they stole his gold where he buried it with her. There might have been more but I found it upsetting once with my kids with Charles dad, they were like, "He wants to burn himself alive?
I loved Mr Edwards though, a good character and dramatic actor. His gruffness coupled with his sensitivity was touching.

| I liked the ending to this episode. The part where Isaiah wanted to kill himself was rather disturbing. I can totally understand why Laura (and Charles) got so upset. I really like the way Charles got Isaiah to go get help after he "got shot." That was pretty quick thinking for Charles to come up with the plan to act like he was wounded. | That ending was the best part, an uplifting triumphant success to an otherwise too depressing and not so enjoyable episode. | |

| Fast forward to "He Was Only Twelve, Part One" and it was Albert who comes up with the last-minute clever plan. I loved that part. | |

| When Charles first shot the gun the deer stayed as if to say "I'm going to sacrifice my life so Mr Edwards will not want to kill himself" RIDICULOUS!!! Sorry, but that ruined little house for me. And I WAS a 100% die hard fan too. Why kill an animal just to put it's blood on yourself to make it look like you were shot. SMH | |

| This was okay episode. Where was Carl Edwards? Was he already in college? Never mention about him. In the later season of LHOTP. He's in that episode. (Forgot that name, of that episode.) Carl and Alicia, was in that episode. (With different actress playing Grace Edwards.) | |

My understanding was that this deer was the answer to Charles' prayer. God sent the deer, yes even for the deer to sacrifice his own life, to give Charles the way to show Mr. Edwards that his life was worth living. So even if they had not eaten the venison of the deer, the deer still served a life-giving purpose.

They did mention something about Mr. Edwards having driven Carl away. I don't know if he just left for a while to live somewhere on his own or perhaps went to visit someone to get away from the house.
