I love that episode. Charles grew frusterated trying to get Grace to eat.

Very funny, loved the Olesons.
Yes, it seems most of the baby scenes are getting them to eat...I guess their food wasn't as tasty as the rest. ; )

I watched this again last night and thought in "real life" the guys would have dumped the kids at the restaurant and went to work. LoL I liked the emphasis on the fairness (and unfairness) of the times then but it really was a bit unrealistic.

One of these days I am going to catch every expression Michael ever did and post a collection of them. I'll bet Michael Junior saw every one of them at home.....he was a lot like a kid in some ways. Must have been wonderful being around him at times.

I think Lynn and Cindy said he was not the disciplinarian around the house...but he was fun. He had another side too..he said a temper and moodiness, but I think the kids saw the better side more often. That laugh!

I guess this was the episode that they had to train the twins who played Grace to refuse food from Michael Landon. Didn't they put hot pepper in the oatmeal? They sure did a good job! Those kids were wailing!

Just finished this one. I like it. Has a lot of humor but also makes a serious point about women's rights. I really love all the scenes with Grace.....first, when Caroline is about to leave to go live at Nellie's, does anyone have any idea what Grace actually said? I think she wasn't really supposed to say anything and Karen Grassle just ad-libbed, pretending as though she understood her. I also think it's hilarious when Grace is just screaming and crying the whole time Charles is trying to take care of her. And I like that Percival went ahead and signed the petition and wasn't just waiting for Charles to do so. I'm glad though that Charles did come to understand that although perhaps some families don't need this law, for some women it is needed. Also nice to see that Revd. Alden is apparently still married, since he comes and joins the men as well. (Seems like we never really see or hear anything about his wife after the episode when he marries her.) I'm kind of surprised Almanzo wasn't more bull-headed about this petition....seems like he usually is the one that seems a bit more chauvinistic even than Charles.

Just read reviews on IMDB and they all seemed to pretty much dislike the episode, thought it was all out of character for Caroline, etc. I disagree (and I wonder if those who wrote the reviews were male or female). I think Caroline did stand up for herself in the series....after all, she is working outside the home herself. I didn't feel it was all that out of character. And I do think that this was a serious issue.....I believe Charles really explained the crux of the matter well when he realized that he should sign the petition, i.e. that women should have some legal recourse if needed to show that they also had rights to the property and children they shared with their husbands.
But I don't recall Mrs. Foster being married other than in this episode.....I guess I just assumed she was a widow or something. So she also was a working woman, being the postmistress in town.
Wow, Walnut Grove was really progressive! Women working outside the home and even having their own businesses (whether legally their own or not) abound.
