PostSubject: My Project   My Project EmptyTue Jun 19, 2012 12:28 pm

For the past week, I have been refinishing a vintage metal glider that I had and in need of an update. A dear friend of mine gave it to me years ago and now that she has passed away from cancer, it is all I have left to remember her by; besides the memories I have kept near and dear. When she gave it to me, it was a lime green color, a popular color from the mid-1940's when these metal chairs, tables and gliders first came out. It wasn't in the best condition, so I refinished it in almond/white. The almond matched the siding on my house in Arkansas. Since moving up here, I do not have a front porch for my glider; I have a deck on the back of the house. I got to looking at my glider; which was needing refreshed and decided to go BOLD and paint it red. The picture below of the lime green is one I found online to give you an idea of what it originally looked like. Couldn't find any painted almond..... HeeHee The red is the finished product and I have a blister on my index finger to prove it....I was lucky enough to have red and white paint left over to redo the side tables as well.

Red just POPS! It looks great! How much are those running these days? I am hoping to buy some outside furniture by next spring. My grandparents had the chairs that look just like the glider. I have the best memories sitting in those.

The metal furninture is ridiculously EXPENSIVE! If you are able to find some at a yard sale or estate sale...you might get away with spending less......If I wanted this and had to buy it, I would pass...... scratchead

This is the article that went with the green glider, you will find it interesting Gin, being from Arkansas.....this guy was from Fort Smith!

That is very true...these are popular again and sellers know it. I saw one at an antique store and one at a garage sale...it was $50 at the garage sale (and it was beat up---would need work!) and the one at the antique store was around $100! Um, no. I would love to find a REAL bargain and spruce it up the way you did.

This is SO cute Rhonda! There is a house up the road from us that is all 'beige', and they brightened up the porch with red furniture. It looks so impressive---love it! Thumbsup

WOW....well you might need to chain that down then Rhonda. All that work could disappear.

I'll find me something by the spring. Saving for a camera right now, but when I get it I'll have to start all over saving my egg money.

It looks wonderful! I love the red.

I have memories of being at a relative's house gliding on one similar to that when I was a child.

Spring is finally here, the lovely pink blooms on the "spray" tree outside my window are gone leaving a beautiful willow.

HeeHee I was actually holding onto the railing and leaning way out off the deck......I couldn't get the whole thing in the shot, so climbed on the outside of the deck, held on, and leaned out.....just glad the shot wasn't of me falling...... batEyes
