There are a lot of anime series that I remember when I was little. Hard to find the series in English, but they are in any other language. These were classic anime series... like:
Candy Candy (French)
Heidi - Girl of the Alps
Lady Georgie (Spanish)
Little Women (Spanish version)
Marco (Italian)
Remi (Spanish)
Sandy Bell (French version)
The Story of Hellen Keller (Spanish)
*Have any of you seen any of these series? If not, what are some of your favorite anime series -- similar to the videos I posted?

My hubby gets into a genre of anime and I've never 'gotten' it, I guess. My friend's hubby loves it too. You either get it or you don't, I guess. But my friend says she does think I would like "Emma", which is a Victorian romance. I have a feeling I'd like the Helen Keller one too.

Well, I've never really gotten into it myself - but my younger brother, Charles, was OBSESSED with Star Blazers when we were young. (He still is. He bought the complete series on DVD.)

What exactly is the difference between anime and just regular cartoons?

I think it just means that it's Japanese animation? Or maybe that's just what my hubby watches. I'm not really sure, but I'm pretty sure that's what the difference is. Carol??

Okay, first of all I laugh because with that avatar of yours Rob... whenever I read something you say, my mind thinks they are the last words you speak before you know... kick the bucket LOL... that kitty doesn't look very lively...
A cartoon is geared more towards kids and mostly done with the purpose to make you laugh or it could be of a character fighting evil, saving the world, etc. Anime... specially the Drama/Romance anime series have characters that looks more human, more realistic. There is also more detail in the background in some anime series. Here is a sample of an anime drawing:
So there is a difference in art style... how it's drawn. For example.. if South Park was anime, this is how it would look:
Cartoon Southpark
Anime Southpark
Also, the drama anime series have stories with substance, many of them make me cry. I don't understand why many of these series were not dubbed in English, but were in many other languages.
Also, the general audience for cartoons is mostly children, but the animated series have a wider range of audience from children to adults... because of the stories behind it.

Thanks for the explanation, Carol. So those great Japanese "cartoons" like Grave of the Fireflies and Spirited Away are anime.

Yes. It's quite an emotionally wrenching movie.

Yes, it really is
I like them because of the stories and the art work. Some of them have me sobbing with my throat aching at the end or during some scenes.
Here are some that are emotional ones...

Whenever I post something, I look at the avatar and it's hard to take anything I say seriously.
