Aw, that's sad to hear. She was such fun to watch as Edith! I loved the role she played in Scarecrow & Mrs. King, too - it was just about as different from Edith as possible, with her playing an international intelligence agent, but she pulled it off memorably.

Aw, very sad. But she made it to 90! Now the only regulars left from the show are Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers.

Gosh, I just can't imagine anyone else pulling off the role of "Edith Bunker" like Maureen did. She was perfection. And just such a hoot!

And yet, I forgot about that! Totally slipped my mind that she was in that show, and I watched it religiously! It's just been too many years since I've seen it now.

I loved her...always loved Edith. R.I.P.
I found one of my favorite "All in the Family" scenes. It was one of those rare moments when Edith stood up to Archie! GO EDITH!

I think a funeral announcement would be a nice touch Rob!

The final scene of the final episode. Edith was helping Archie get his bar ready for the big St. Patrick's Day party, and didn't tell him that she was suffering from blood clots in her legs. This is a very touching scene.

That was a great video, Rob! I hadn't seen it in such a long time! Very touching scene. I remember this being the last episode before it was re-named "Archie Bunker's Place." Another "jumping the shark" moment, IMO. I know Jean made a few appearances on there, until her character was killed off. I hated that they did that!
Thanks so much for posting! "Those Were the Days..." indeed...

Ha, yeah. I still watched, though, because Carroll was so good. Some people think the show jumped even before it became ABP. Some say it was when Mike and Gloria left. Others, when the little girl joined the cast - you know "Little Rosemarie..." "Stephanie!" "Whatever!"

Oh yes, Stephanie, played by Danielle Brisebois. My mom detests that season. Personally, I think the show was already jumping the shark when Mike & Gloria moved next door to the Jefferson's old house. It was much more fun when they all lived under one roof. But it really jumped the shark once the Stivics left...and Stephanie was brought in. Danielle Brisebois however was a very talented actress and singer, and today she is a songrwiter. She co- wrote a very popular hit by Natasha Bedingfield, "Unwritten," which she also produced.

Yes! It was a touching ending.
The show wasn't the same when they left. Tho sometimes I would find mike annoying.

I knew she'd been involved in music, but didn't know she'd written a hit song. Good for her!

Ruthless I tell ya, ruthless.
I wonder where I got the name Maureen from? IS there are Maureen Stapleton??
Wow, I love that scene where she tells Archie off. Basically, these people were my grandparents. These were very different times back then, that's for sure! The acting in that scene was really good. Carroll seemed totally thrown off guard with Edith's reaction which was just perfect. And Jean looked like she was almost going to take it back when he said, "you don't take orders??"---definitely fear in the eyes at his reaction, and then you see it where she gains strength from somewhere and totally snaps, and reiterates her position. Really good stuff. I'll have to watch the goodbye scene later when I have more time. I'd forgotten how good this show actually was---my parents watched it a lot.

Yes, there was an actress named Maureen Stapleton, who passed away a few years back. I don't think they are related.
