I am so sorry for your loss, Shell. I can totally empathize with what you are going through. We had to put my 12 1/2 year old dog to sleep 4 years ago. It was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do, but I knew it was the right decision.

It is a hard thing to do. I had to do it for our dog, Zack in 2004. What made it worse was it was on Christmas Eve. But he was sick, and really had no good quality of life anymore.
It just makes room for the one that might need you more someday when you are ready.
Remember, the days when Yogi was healthy and full of energy. ( Love his name!)

Great advice, Gin. Another thing you might want to do, Shell, is write down all the things that made Yogi special. I did that when I had my golden retriever, Casey, put to sleep in 2009. I wrote down all her funny habits and all the nicknames I called her. I didn't want to ever forget anything.

Thank you everyone. Great advice Gin. Yogi was born on my maternal grandfather's birthday. He liked Yogi bear so his friends called him Yogi and when we found out when the dog was born, he got named Yogi. My grandfather died in 1976. Yogi was born March 16, 2001 and died April 17, 2014. My mom and dad named him.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Yogi. I am sure that he was a wonderful friend to you, and for many years too. Almost a year ago my family had to have our dog, Daisy, put to sleep. She was almost 18, and we had owned her since she was 10 months old. It was very hard, and sometimes it still hurts to think about her, because I came to realize that she was the first friend I ever had. One thing I started to do is work on a scrapbook that is dedicated to Daisy- filled with lots of pictures of her and memories. I like to think that Daisy would want me to be happy, because she was always such a happy dog, and I am sure that your Yogi would not want you to be too sad.

I'm so sorry, Shell.  Blue  That's one of the hardest things to have to do.
