Any Good Movies to See? Empty
PostSubject: Any Good Movies to See?   Any Good Movies to See? EmptySun Sep 23, 2012 4:44 pm

These are the ones that I am REALLY looking forward to:

I am just going to say it right now.  I do NOT like Anne Hathaway in any sort of way.  She kind of makes my skin crawl.  So I was irritated when they cast her, but I can deal with it, I suppose, knowing how long I have to deal with her only in the film.   Smile  I am SO HAPPY, though, that they FINALLY made this after all these years.  I can't wait to see how Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe are in here.  Especially Russell Crowe.  Call me crazy, but I have always like Javert (he's a "villain" that I have always liked) and I am so eager to see how he portrays him.  I wish they'd come out with the full trailer already, though.  I am tired of the teaser one.

Now, I have been a fan of Daniel Day-Lewis since I was a kid and first saw him in "A Room With a View".  I had my doubts about him as Abraham Lincoln (I still think Liam Neeson - the original choice - may have been better).  I think he will be good, though.  Think about it.  When is DDL EVER bad?  My complaints about this film are probably nit-picky, but I don't care.  I take Lincoln and the war very seriously.  Lincoln's voice should still be a tiny bit higher.  Sally Field should NOT be Mary Lincoln.  That has to be some of the worst casting ever.  EVER!  I hated Mary Tyler Moore as the choice for his wife in the miniseries "Lincoln" (though she was good in it) because she was TOO skinny.  Not only that, she looked NOTHING like her.  And neither does Sally Field.  I don't know how much I will be able to tolerate her in this movie.  And Joseph Gordon-Levitt is OK but I actually think he is a little bit of a silly choice to play Robert Lincoln, too.  But this is just my opinion, of course.   Smile

Yes, I know it isn't coming out until next year, but I had to include it on the list.  Smile  Superman is always the best and will always be the best.  I don't care what anyone else has to say about it!  I just wish they would've released the trailer that was at ComicCon (it was briefly on youtube).  It shows so much more than this teaser trailer.  I am not a fan of teaser trailers.

Anyway, those are my top ones that I am getting excited about.
Do any of you guys have any movies that you are looking forward to?

Les Miserable is on my list and I bought tickets to the play for next year.
I might go to The Hobbit with my daughter...LOTR is her absolute favorite movie.
I also would like to see The Great Gatsby.

This is odd. I haven't seen a movie "at the movies" in a very long time.

There is a Les Miserable movie out already from a few years back but it was not a musical. I'm not a big Hathaway fan too, but I'm being open to her doing it well.

"The Great Gatsby" does look pretty good, too. I hope your daughter will like "The Hobbit" as much as LOTR. Well, maybe not as much as LOTR is her favorite, but close to it. Smile

So, you have never seen a live version of "Les Miserables" yet? Next year will be your first time? I LOVE IT!!! I have seen it 3 times! So I am really hoping this movie doesn't disappoint. My favorite musical (and it is a borderline obsession) is "The Phantom of the Opera". I have seen that 3 times, too, but the movie was basically a disappointment for me. It is tolerable but it isn't that great. It is nowhere near as good as it should've been. So I am hoping "Les Mis" doesn't disappoint. I don't think it will either.

I am seeing Les Mis live for the second time next year...was spellbound last year. When "Bring him Home" was sung, you could hear a pin drop, it was so good and after he finished the clapping was rivaling what some plays end with. Soooo good. : )

I wont expect the movie to be as great, but will see it.

I saw Phantom once in NYC with my girls, they loved it and so did I. AAA at the time had discount tickets for 60.00, great center seats, row 15 or so. Never found that bargain again.

So, in the 15th row, you didn't see too much with the special effects, right? What I mean is, could you tell what was the effects pretty clearly? I am asking because when I first saw "Phantom" (and that was in Milwaukee - same production just not IN NYC Smile ) I was in the center and 16th row or so. And I was just mesmerized with everything. Then I went a few years later. And I discovered they were the 2nd row and a little too the side. HORRIBLE! The guy I went with thought that was SO great. All I said was "No it's not". I knew I was going to see everything. And I did. So I know exactly what happens (and how it happens) in that show now. To tell you the truth, it kind of tainted it for me. So when I had the chance to see it a third time, in 2009, I went because I needed to block the second time from my mind and just enjoy the show without knowing how it all happens. This time I had center box seats (my favorite). It helped erase the facts of the effects. Kind of.

Thanks for posting the Lincoln trailer. That looks like it might be a good movie. I think Sally Fields was a good choice for Mary, not sure about Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln though.

I can't believe I've never seen Les Mis either. Can't wait for that one....my son's marching band is doing the music this year, and it's amazing, and his school is doing the musical. I SO hope he tries out for it!!

Amanda Seyfried sings the song in that trailer, by the way---I recognized her voice from Mamma Mia. She's amazing! This looks like quite the fantastic cast too. A must see, IN the theater.

I will be seeing the Hobbit in the theater, for sure too---my boys and I are all LOTR fans.

I'd like to see Lincoln and "Looper" too. Beckie, are you a Dr. Quinn fan, I can't remember? I love Joseph Gordon Levitt too, and he guest starred on a Dr. Quinn episode as a little kid! Who would have ever thought he'd end up such a huge star?! Looper looks very interesting.

Oh yes I want to see Lincoln too not just because he is in it, but I love any movies about the Civil War after watching Gettysburg. Joe has come a long way and didn't let Hollywood turn him into a train wreck like most child stars. He has used drugs though. Not sure if he still does. I would hope not. He is a wonderful actor. And I really admire him because he is my age and really successful now. He was born the same month and year as me. Pretty cool. I saw him in the new Batman of course since I was an extra, I made sure I saw it in the theater. Wanted to see Premium Rush but missed that one.

I was never really a fan of Doctor Quinn when I was a kid, but I have seen a few episodes now and I liked the show.

Yeah, like I said, I think Liam Neeson was a much better choice as Lincoln. I honestly don't know why he wasn't in the movie. For years I always read/heard that he was going to be in the film. In fact, he was supposedly reading all of these books and studying everything about Lincoln. Then all of a sudden he is no longer going to be in it and Daniel Day-Lewis was the choice. So I really don't know how that came about. I figure he will be good in it, but I still wish it was Liam Neeson. I just don't think Sally Field is good at all. Forget the fact she is too thin. She actually looks much older than Mary. I don't need someone to be a spitting image of someone, but I would appreciate it if someone at least resembled the person they are portraying. But like I said, I am very nit-picky when it comes this subject. I try to control it, but I just can't. I really can't.

Just be glad I am not going on my Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe rant for her portrayal in "My Week With Marilyn". People can like her all they want but I can't get over how she is NOTHING like Marilyn. I suppose it is nit-picky, but I can't get over it. I just can't accept it. Terrible, isn't it? Smile

Is your son's marching band going to be performing a bunch of songs from the show or just a couple? It would be interesting to hear them play "Do You Hear the People Sing?" from there (my favorite, by the way).

That is actually Anne Hathaway singing the song in the trailer. She is Fantine in there and she gets "I Dreamed a Dream". Have you seen any clips from the movie yet? I saw a bit with Amanda Seyfried singing. She actually sounds so much better than she did in "Mamma Mia". It sounds like her voice is a little stronger. So I am thinking that either she had a little training with that. Or she didn't feel that the voice she sings with in "Les Miserables" was appropriate for "Mamma Mia" and she was just holding out on us this whole time. Smile

So you have never seen the stage version of "Les Miserables"?

MattLabMyLove wrote:

I love Civil War movies. But then again, I pretty much enjoy anything Civil War (books, documentaries, et.c.). Have you ever seen "Glory"? I will be honest and say that is probably my favorite film of all-time. Yes, there are some things that are a little inaccurate (and yes, I am being nit-picky again Smile ), but I just love that movie.

Oh, it's Anne Hathaway?! I probably should have guessed that. scratchead What's weird is that I could have sworn I heard some of the same qualities I hear in Amanda's...it didn't sound like Amanda's Mamma Mia voice, but like you were saying, I just figured it had become stronger for this role. So wild that that's Anne! I haven't seen any clips, no, so I'll have to check more out and look for the ones with Amanda's songs! Thumbsup

These two do look pretty good. I do like it when Hollywood releases just a story every now and then. And I like seeing a lot of these people working again, too.

Here's a clip about the movie.

I just really hope that this doesn't disappoint me the way that "The Phantom of the Opera" did. I know I keep saying that, but I really fear that is going to happen. Maybe "Phantom" was such a major disappointment because it is my favorite musical and I expected so much more from it (as there should've been). This movie really looks epic, though, I think.

I saw Looper yesterday and I absolutely LOVED it!!!!! Any Good Movies to See? 702150 It was a little confusing, but very action packed. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was so sexy in it, lol. Such a phenomenal actor. Different from any roles I saw him in. And of course Jeff Daniels was awesome in it to. Bruce Willis was not in it as much as Joseph. Joe was more the star of the film. There is the most adorable little boy in the film too. I would definitely see it again!! Highly recommended.

Next I want to see The Perks of Being a Wallflower that was also filmed here. We are now known as Hollywood East. Such an honor! We have a film office here. I have a friend that has her own production company here and hope to work with her some day. She said she would introduce me to celebrities if she works with them, lol. She said she would hook me up with a crew member too, lol.

Sorry I missed this post, Beckie....I saw Looper too and I thought it was really good too. Definitely two thumbs up from me!

And Miss Oleson, I had just found that clip online for Les Mis and was about to share it here---I didn't realize you'd posted it so long ago! That is just incredible. Honestly I had no idea they were singing live....it's not going to be "Glee-esque" ( Yikes )....I LOVE that they are doing this authentically. This will be quite a treat for us musical buffs!! Applause More like live theater, really.

My hubby recently saw the new James Bond with his buddies and said it was the BEST Bond yet. For him, that is speaking volumes, because he loves this series so much.

My son and I are hoping to see Lincoln this weekend. There are just so many good movies out right now...gotta pick and choose what I'll see (due to price), but Lincoln and Les Mis are must-sees. Thumbsup

And, my son just pre-ordered his tickets with some friends for the midnight showing of the Hobbit! He's so excited! Being a Lord of the Rings fan myself, I'll be seeing this eventually too, but not opening night. My days of midnight movies are over. No

Oh, did anyone see Argo? The Ben Affleck Iraq movie? I heard that was incredible too!

I want to see Lincoln, too. If you go, let me know how it is. As far as Argo, goes, it is fabulous. A little too much swearing for my taste, but I still highly recommend it.
