Who has seen this movie? I had to buy it because I would watch it every time it came on TV. I love the movie because it reminds me of when I was a kid. Those were some carefree days when all you had to worry about was to make sure you didn’t miss your favorite cartoons on Saturday morning or other fun things like that. I am really glad I got to experience playing with friends in the park or the street, having a club house, listening to the radio on the boom box while you played Chinese jump rope or other fun games. My friends, cousins and I experienced a lot of fun things like having sleepovers, camping out, going to a drive-in movie theater, becoming blood brothers/sisters, riding our bikes throughout the town, making friendship bracelets for each other. A lot of what’s in this movie reminds me of my childhood; those were the days… they only happen once in our lifetime.
It seems that, on a wide scale, we are living in the age of innocence lost. I don’t see groups of kids having fun like that. It has become dangerous now for kids to play outside for so long. Kids today are learning things so much quicker now… either from parents or television (celebrities) or their friends in school… you hear of 9 or ten year olds going for manicures and pedicures. One teenager got breast implants because her boyfriend didn’t find her ‘hot’ enough. My cousin for example is 12 and she gets up at 5am to get ready for school… she has a cell phone, an iPod, a laptop and expensive clothes…. Good grief.. when I was 12, I sure didn’t get up that early unless it was Saturday morning LOL, and if I wanted to use the phone I had to go to the nearest payphone. My 9 year old cousin and his sister both have myspace webpage. My 40 year old cousin recently found out that her 12 year old daughter had gotten into a chatroom and she was not happy with the stuff people talked about.
When my 12 year old cousin comes over, I put that movie for her and she likes it very much. She said that it is too bad her generation today does not do fun things like the girls did on the movie. I think sometimes she behaves the way she does because of her friends, because of peer pressure. There are times when I have to take care of her and at first when she arrives to the house, she acts a little snobby & spoiled but in about an hour the attitude fades and she acts fun… I have her do fun games & old games which she seems to like a lot. One thing she always likes to do is watch this movie every time she comes over, lol. After the movie we do other fun things, I sort of take her back in time for a while… and she seems to enjoy it.
What do you guys think about kids today? Have you seen the movie? Can you relate to it? Let’s discuss.

I love this movie too. I own it on VHS. My best friend and I have been friends since we were 6 and just like the movie we are always there for one another when we are there for each other.

This has to be one of the best movies. I love stories that go back to people's pasts.

I've never seen it, but I think I remember seeing ads for it when it first came out.

I haven't seen it in years. I remember when it first came out. The cast was in this one old teen mag that I still have. I used to think Devon Sawa was so cute.

I think this was Devon & Christina's second on screen kiss. They first kissed in the movie Casper.

Yes, I have seen the movie. Now I think I'll see if our library has it so I can watch it again.

It is true that kids today are alot different.
My daughter is turning 11 at the end of the month. She rides her bike around the neighborhood and plays with her friends. They swim in the pool in our backyard and jump on the trampoline.
But...their conversation is alot different than I remember mine being at 11.
They play games like "hot or not" where they say a boys name and say if he is "hot or not"
It is harder for kids to remain kids in this day and age. There are alot of things we can blame it on, but I think it is really a combination of a great many things, not the least of which is the media/magazines at grocery counters etc.
Even when we try to minimize this stuff...it seems to creep in somehow.
Another issue is that if your child is ignorant of these things at 12 (ie Myspace/cell phone usage etc.) the other kids will tease and think they are socially "backwards"
It is very difficult trying to find a happy medium for todays parents.
