Hello prairie pioneers! I hope you are all enjoying the forum.
As you have noticed, the forum got a new look around the beginning of the year. Several things and features were added and I will try to explain it by sections. This thread will talk about the new Message Editor.
The one we used to have looked like this:
The new one we have looks like this:
I won’t explain every single button but I’ll try to cover the ones that mostly might be used.
These don’t really need explanations. They simply do the following: Bold Italics Underline Strikeout
Quote Button
Code:
[quote][/quote]
To quote only ONE person, you would just simply hit “Quote” on their comment. But let’s say you wanted to quote several people. When you hit Reply to post your comment on a thread… you will notice that if you keep scrolling down the page, it lets you see the previous comments made. Copy and paste the comments you want. On each comment, you will put the name of the person that said each comment... otherwise you will just create a blind quote. The way to do that is by putting an = sign and the person’s names in quotes. For example: [quote=”name of user” ] This is whatever the person said… [/quote]
So, it looks like this:

YouTube or DailyMotion Video Button Mostly used for YouTube videos since there are some issues sometimes when you try to post a DailyMotion video. Basically, you just click on the button and paste the URL link of the video and the video will appear. YouTube videos provide you with a URL link and also an Embed link. If using an Embed link, you will get a long code but there is a lot that can be taken out which allows you to customize how the video appears. For example, see everything that I have taken out from the Embed code below:
Notice that you can change the size of the video. Instead of having the video be 425 X 355… you can make it smaller by changing the numbers to 325 X 255.
The result will be this:
OTHERS Button
Clicking on that button opens up a list of other features. For example…
Spoiler tag : dissimulate a text which will be visible only after having clicked on "Spoiler".
Code:
[spoiler][/spoiler]
Example:
Spoiler:
If you are reading this message, it's because you clicked on 'spoiler'
If you wish to make a text scroll horizontally, you need to use the following BBcode:
Code:
[scroll][/scroll]
Result:
There are other features you can learn about by pressing the blue question mark. It will open a new window that will explain more codes that are available to use.
This ends the session on the Message Editor. If any of you have questions or comments, please post them in this thread.
Have fun.

Thanks for sharing, Shirley! I know I've been wondering what all the stuff under 'others' meant!

Hey, I just noticed something: When I read Savannah's comment, her spoiler is blank, but when I click within her spoiler box, her message: "I love the spoilers feature! How very cool! " appeared. When I click on it again, it disappeared.

Yes, that's how it's supposed to be. If you click on the spoiler again after having read it... it closes again :sillySmiley:

For some reason, I can't get the scroll thing to work. I do [ scroll] (my message) [ /scroll ] (without the spaces of 'corse!) then when I preview it, it works, but when I hit send, it dosn't!

If you preview it, it removes the code from your message, Farmer Girl. I found that out by trial and error. So if you preview it, then whatever you had had in scrolling or spoiler, or whatever.........You'll have to re-do it before you hit send.

The one thing I haven't been able to do since the change is a cut and paste or a copy and paste. Am I just being a technology challenged doofus?

I found a "back door" for that. I highlight what I want, then in the toolbar, I click on the "Edit" button, and it lets me cut, copy or paste. But, yes, you're right.......Since the change, I can't just right click and do that.

Spoiler:
or this either, but.....
double quoting just seems impossible for me. I just don't get it. That's pretty sad since I got a 93% average in my computer courses and I can't even follow simple instructions, lol.

What I did to do this, Marilyn, was to click the "quote" button on your post, copy your text, then I clicked on the "quote" button on Trixie's post and pasted your text underneath hers.

You almost had it, though, Marilyn!! You accidentally cut off the first brackets, on your second quote. It needed the [quote="ChristinaAL"] at the front of the quote. Try it again! Make sure that when you copy and paste the quotes, that it includes the "front and back" brackets for each quote. You can do it, Marilyn! If *I* can do it, anyone can!
