| Subject: What would you like to see for a LHOP remake? Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:23 am | |
| I don't think we addressed this before, but if we did, feel free to direct me to that post. The remaking of Dallas and a post at PT got me to thinking about what I would like to see if they ever remade Little House on the Prairie. The new Dallas, which premiers on TNT tonight at 9 P.M. EST, has the old favorites (J.R., Bobby, and Sue Ellen), along with the younger generation of Ewings (John Ross and Christopher).
My first thought for a remade LHOP would be Almanzo and Laura raising a teenage Rose. Now, we know in real life Rose went to live with her Aunt Eliza Jane in Louisiana to finish her schooling, but if the show focused not only on the Wilders, but on the town like Season 9 did, there might be enough to work with. Depending upon when it was set, Rose might still be living with her parents.
How about you? What would you like to see if they ever remade LHOP?

| Well I have two thoughts: The first being from a story I wrote about 16 yrs ago based where Walnut Grove was ended. I had brought the Ingalls/ Wilders to another town , buying adjoining land called Amber Landing. They rebuild their lives together. Almonzo and Laura have other children, James is about to marry, Jenny is trying to pass a teachers exam, Carrie is helping out at the local newspaper office to learn more about that. Grace is 9 and in school and Rose is starting school. Mary and Adam are still in New York for now... Everyone is missing Albert still but they have left him where he became Albert Ingalls so their hearts are still healing. I hadn't gotten very far into the story, but I wanted to bring out how things were changing in the late 1800's.
Another hope that I wish to see is Dean Butler and Melissa Gilbert get together to do a movie about the time Laura began writing her books. This would of course include their life in Mansfield and Rose. I would hope this could be filmed in their home. It would be wonderful for them to act together again. Clips from the show would be a great addition because we have lost Michael. It is the lack of Christianity that has brought us where we are. Not a lack of churches or religious forms but of the real thing in our hearts. LIW.....Words From a Fearless Heart

| I would love a remake. I've often thought about how amazing it would be to have one. I think a lot of people my age (I'm 17) would appreciate it also. Sort of like reintroducing LHOP to our generation. There were a lot of relevant lessons in that show that would be very fitting to retackle today.
I remember the time I knew what happiness was...let the memory live again.

| Subject: LITTLE HOUSE MOVIE REMAKE Mon Oct 01, 2012 1:39 pm | |
| David Gordon Green, who started off as the would-be successor to Terrence Malick and last made the flop comedy The Sitter, is anything but predictable, which is why we shouldn't be shocked by his latest weird choice. But I can't help it-- I totally, totally never expected Green to take on an adaptation of Little House on the Prairie.
No, seriously-- I know it sounds like a MadLibs experiment gone wrong, but Green really is planning a Little House on the Prairie movie, with Deadline reporting that Sony Pictures is in negotiations to take on the project, and none other than heavyweight producer Scott Rudin ready to take it on. Little House is best known from the 1970s TV series as well as the original books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, chronicling her difficult but fascinating childhood growing up on homesteads in Kansas, Minnesota, and South Dakota. The stories are beloved by generations of mostly female fans, and it actually makes sense for there to be a new feature film version for fans not at all familiar with the TV series.
But for David Gordon Green to be the one to take it on? It didn't seem at all like the direction he was headed, after comedies like The Sitter and Your Highness, and a chunk of time spent developing a remake of the horror film Suspiria, which was on track as recently as April of this year. And it was just last month that Nicolas Cage signed on to star in Green's Southern-tinged drama Joe.
The Little House film still seems to be in the early stages of development, which gives Green plenty of time to finish Joe. If he can tap back in to the filmmaker he was for George Washington and All The Real Girls, he really has the potential to revive the classic Little House stories for modern audiences. But is he still that guy? "Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?" "I must be Pa. I love you, I have for a long time."

| I'm all for something more of Little House Or LIW. I first hope that he is doing this for the right reasons. Little House is not to be used in a loose way, or be made fun of...ya know? Can we go too far with remakes of Little House? I'm wanting to say yes, if its not got the foundation of good character that Laura herself and Michael Landon put into it. I'll sit on the sidelines and watch...hope it works out. It is the lack of Christianity that has brought us where we are. Not a lack of churches or religious forms but of the real thing in our hearts. LIW.....Words From a Fearless Heart | |

| They talked about making a "Little House" movie YEARS ago. It just never seemed to happen. I wonder if this is the same one or does someone have a new idea in their head? So this news doesn't surprise me. I wasn't crazy about the idea of it all those years ago. I am not crazy about hearing it now. I just don't see how they will make it into a movie. But maybe they will surprise me and make a quality film. Who knows? Who's going to do the cooking?!?! | |

Vanesa. I saw that, too! I didn't care for the acting. Frankly, the whole thing sucked.

| I haven't found anything about how he plans on doing it...a movie about the books has been done and does he plan on staying close to the books (rated G) or giving it his own spin (PG13-R), does he plan on having it like the TV show, which most people love or doing it directly from the books, which is more historical?
The script and actors will make a big difference, you can joke, as one post did, "Can Matt Damon grow his hair out for this one?" but the correct people will matter.
I hope he doesn't make it a mockery and not realize what devoted fans LHOP has. Some replies on the Internet give you a glimpse of the thoughts, some think it's as silly as making a Walton's movie, some love the idea, missing the "TV" version, some always wanted a true version of the books....time will tell.
