PostSubject: Am I crazy?   Am I crazy? EmptyMon Aug 06, 2007 12:01 pm

My youngest, Michael is going to Kindergarden this year. School starts next Thrusday. I've been having 2nd thoughts on sending Michael this year or wait till next year. He's a early 5(6-27). Jim is 100% for Michael going. I want to wait till Michael turns 6 next summer. Jim thinks Michael is ready and needs to go. So I registered him with the other boys last week. Jim thinks I'm feeling this way , cause Michael is my baby. In a way he's right. I never had these feeling with my 3 other boys. Am I crazy?

To answer your question Susie....YES, you are crazy! ROTFL

Now to get serious.......Sending Josh, (my baby) to Kindergarten was a hard thing to do. He was ready to go, but being the baby, it was hard for this mom to let go. If your son is mature enough and ready to go, give it a try, if it doesn't work out, they can put him in transition or do it again. It won't be failing, it will just be a re-do. grinsmiley

By the way, My Josh, the baby that was so hard to let go of....He is a Senior this year and graduates in May!!! bawling

Oh goodness, Susie.......I can so totally relate. Caleby is "my" baby, and he just turned five. We've always homeschooled, so it wouldn't be difficult starting him in Kindergarten - but if I had to send him away?? Oh pain! Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to let them wait a little while like that. You can still work with him at home, and have that extra time with him. But, whatever you decide - we're here for you! {{{Susie}}}

I felt the pain when I sent both of my daughters to kindergarden, I felt they would feel all alone and that they would get lost. bawling

Susie, if Michael wants to go, you should definitely let him go. Besides, this will be the first time you'll have the house all to youself.

My son turned 5 June 1st and started kindergarten that following Sept. (He is now 15 years old)

Daughter turned 5 July 29th and started Kindergarten that following Sept. (she is 11 years old now)

My son did great. He was mentally and emotionally ready to be in a large social situation.

My daughter did "okay" in kindergarten but I homeschooled her for the 1st and 2nd grade.
She went back to school in 3rd, 4th and half the year in 5th.
I homeschooled her for the last part of 5th grade (last year) and this year she is going to a private schools that goes up to the 8th grade.

My son is being homeschooled for his high school years.

I think it really depends on a variety of factors with generalizations being hard to make.

Is he ready? Socially, mentally and emotionally?
Is your local public school bursting at the seams with kids?
(ours is and there isn't enough teachers either)

It wouldn't do any harm to keep him home for another year if you feel he isn't ready yet.
It can do more harm than good if he is not ready to go yet.

Good luck either way.

You probably are feeling this way since he is your baby. Did they do any testing for kindergarten readiness? If they did and he passed, he probably should go. But mom knows best! Do what you think is right.

It's natural I guess. You women all hate to let your youngest go. We men can't wait to get 'em out of the house.

But you are crazy. Crazy as an outhouse rat. I'm just sayin'......

I am sending my youngest this year. He turned six this past June. I waited with him and my fourth, Jacob because I didn't feel they were ready yet. You do what is best for you and your son...if you keep him home one more year, in the scheme of things, it won't really matter.

I agree, I think it may be hard to "let go" of him b/c he's the baby, but I think it's normal to feel that way. If you think he's ready for it, see how he does. Like Rhonda said, if it doesn't work out, he could always try it again. He may end up liking it. I adored kindergarden! But after that, when I started grade school and actually started getting homework...that was the end of my liking school! LOL.
