| I'm trying to find all kinds of gooey things that the children can make. (And trying to find the science behind them) We made flubber, and homemade playdough, and once a week, I'd like to have some kind of fun thing for them to make like that. Do any of you know of some really good sites for things like that? I've been using google, and found some - but not all of them work. I experimented with Oobleck this afternoon, and the results were less than impressive. So, any good recipes for slime? | |

| I found a book called "The Ulitmate Book of Kid Concoctions" at the library. Too cool!! It has a ton of fun hands-on things for children to do. So, this morning, I pulled out a bottle of "cheapy" glue-all (not school glue - as I'd already read that it wouldn't work) and added it to liquid starch. It's SUPPOSED to absorb the starch, and work into a silly putty type of consistency. Well........cheapy glue does NOT work. I tried it twice. Then I tried it with some Elmer's Glue All, and it worked right away. That silly putty stretched, bounced, and picked up pictures just like it was supposed to. The children pressed the kitten's paw into the putty to see if it would work, and make a print. :Hahaha: Next week.........sidewalk paint. And, I still want to try that silly putty with epsom salts! | |

| Savannah, I finally found the recipes! They were down here all by the computer all along and I tore my house apart looking for them because Kelsey wants to make Eatable Playdough, and my MIL wants the recipe for it too, to share with a neighbor, lol. Anyhow, I'll copy a few of the recipes, as well as give you a list of what other recipes I have, and you can tell me which ones you'd like.
Eatable Playdough
1 cup peanutbutter 1 cup powder milk 1 cup honey 1 cup oatmeal
Mix all ingrediants well.
Woody Wood Dough
1 cup clean sifted sawdust 1/2 cup flour 1 tbs. liquid startch 1 cup water
Mix ingrediants together until stiff dough (add extra water if dry).
Cotton Clay
3 cups cotten balls 2 cups water 2/3 cup flour 5 -7 drops foodcoloring
Tear cotton balls apart into small pieces. Mix water and cotton together in medium saucepan. Slowly sitr in flour whilde cooking over low heat for 5 -7 minutes, until mixture begins to stiffen. Remove saucepan from heat and place on towel to cool. Allow cotton clay sculptures to dry 24 hours. Cotton clay may be used like paper mache. (Some of these recipes aren't very thorough. I imagine I'd add the food coloring just before I added the flour)
3-D Puffy Sand
1/3 cup flour 1/3 cup salt 1/2 tbsp. sand 2 1/2 tbsp. tempra paint or 6 - 8 drops food coloring. 1/3 cup water
Combine flour, salt, sand in a medium bowl, mix well. Pour into plastic squeeze bottles. Let finished paintings dry 24 hours. | |
