Caleby

I had actually posted this before, then took it down before anyone else saw it. I thought! LOL! Then Rob PMed me asking me why I took it down. I took it down because it isn't really very good - BUT, you all have heard so me talk about the Opie Adventures so much, and about the children, I thought I'd go ahead and share a little of the "illustrating" with you. I'm hoping to do a little "portrait" of each of the children in the Opie tales, and I'm starting with Caleby, since he was the one who asked me to start writing them in the first place. SO.......here's Caleby, and then I'll be putting Opie in his arms. I've said it before - I wish I had the artistic talent of Tasha Tudor! It would make things a lot faster! But the children are stuck with my drawings. I can't afford Tasha's prices! :Hahaha:

I'm glad you had a change of heart. That is just a wonderful picture, Savannah! Sure wish I could do that. Is Tasha Tudor an influence? I looked at some of her work online, and the style is similar. Though if you ask me, yours is just as good.

You know, I think that Tasha Tudor's work probably has had an influence on me, whether I realized it or not. I've loved her work since I was a little girl. Of course, I didn't know who she was at the time - I just knew that I loved the pictures. Now, even my town's librarians know how much I love Tasha's work, and they watch for books of hers that are being taken out of rotation, and save them for me.

That's beautiful, Savannah! People are the hardest subjects to draw, IMO. You have a wonderful talent!

I've sketched animals, and things like that - especially lately, for the children. But never people. They scare me.

I've read somewhere that Garth Williams, the "Little House on the Prairie" second illustrator, had never draw persons before his work in Laura's book. His former work was drawing animals, and he wasn't sure he could draw persons accurately. Adding to this, his art was all for fantastic tales, and he wasn't sure he could do a good job with realistic stories, as Laura would write His more famous character before LH was...an ANT (and not the "Atomic Ant", precissely)...But all of us knows what an absolute succes Garth's "Little House's" drawings were!

Maybe you may become as famous as Garth Williams, Savannah!

How interesting, Vanesa! I never knew that about Garth Williams! As for me.....I really don't think there's much chance of me becoming famous for my drawings! Or anything else, for that matter. :Hahaha:

I'm telling you, you should look into getting some of those stories published. Not only are you great at telling stories (just from the stories that I've seen you post here), but you are a talented illustrator as well.

With Opie being so adventurous.... a children's book could be done about his adventures and the kids.... the book would be centered around Opie and there would be illustrations of the kids and Opie. I'd read it!! :sillySmiley:
